So because Franson played with Fraser all year long, that makes him a #5 d.....does that make Holzer and Kostka #2's because they played with Phaneuf?
- mykokes

They were number 2's

Gents/ladies, serious question here.....should my sump pump be empty of water? Or should there always be water in it? I have no clue about this thing.

no... but it solidifies that franson is bottom pairing behind those guys because thier estoi is higher.

yes, behind a guy that played 12 games... and a guy who was replaced by gunnar and played 25+ for the first 20 games or so

edit... toi/g
if just toi overall, i thinks he is #2... but again, that means nothing because it is bloated with the pptoi, that he got by pure circumstance

- Rockhead_37

here's the funny thing... Kostka, even after being replaced by Gunnar, still saw more TOI at the end of the season than Franson. Gardiner, who saw ice time at the end of the year, when Franson was supposedly promoted, still about the same TOI/G.

And the reason we don't look at gross TOI numbers, but rather TOI/G, is because we need to take injuries into account. That's why he sits in second for overall gross TOI... because he wasn't injured much last season.

And playing a lot on the PP isn't by circumstance, he's good offensively. But he's only good offensively. He's a PP specialist who plays on the bottom pairing during regular action.

Therefore... he's a bottom pairing d-man.

Leafs are in trouble if the only change to the D is Franson out, Ranger in.

Oh and Kostka or whoever disappearing completely.

Yea, doesn't matter. Just means there isn't any water in the well.

If it's running while it's empty, that's a problem.

Is it raining where you are? Have you ever seen/heard it working? Take a Pail of water and pour it in there to see if it works first.

Oh I disagree. He's been steadily improving and ready to take the next step.

Leafs D was their weak spot last year and if the only change is adding Ranger and losing him I think it'll kill their chances this year.

Gotta get him in the lineup

- robin_steele264

The Leafs' D had no problem scoring last year.

It was what they did without the puck that was the weak spot.

Ranger over Franson (in theory) helps this.

But hey, if you think Franson is so hot, man up and make us an offer.

point is.. he is past the age where you pay him for potential.

you pay him for what he has earned once a guy is past 25.. not what he might be

this isnt a 22 year old d-man, he's 26.

oh man you have no idea.. there were people saying 3.5-4 for kadri
- Dozzer

I said 4 for Kadri ....on a 5 or 6 year deal..I was hoping that would happen.

for 2 years...around 3

Always a bit.

But if it sits too long, it goes stagnant (stinky) so you have to actually pour some fresh water into it.

I'm learning the ways of the sump pump, too. Had one for under a year now.

disagree. the leafs need more stability from the back end.. not offense.

and when it comes to stability ranger >>> franson.

Well it was their weak spot last year and it hasn't really been improved.

ok. but that wasn't the initial point. this was all under the assumption that Franson is worth 3.5 (obviously debatable).
- scotch_tape

And that's why they're still negotiating. He hasn't proven he's worth 3.5 yet. He thinks he is, but the team doesn't agree, and obviously nobody else has extended that contract to him. So he needs to suck it up, take the raise they're offering him, prove he's worth more, and enjoy the fact that he's a (frank)ing millionaire.

I'd like to see this offer as well.
