nope... no Colborne unless payment is higher. Liles is actually a player that the Flames could use.
in my opinion Flames would be better off asking for Liles plus Orr or Mclaren... that would give them a genuine heavyweight who can stiffen their backs a bit...
McGratten is completely useless.. and I don't believe he's won a fight since he was with Ottawa. - BorjeFan4Ever
I see your point, but I feel Burke & Co. would rather increase the price a little in order to get a guy like Colborne who could develop and play in Calgary rather than sit back in Toronto and wait. They dont reeeally need an Orr or Mclaren...they could really use another center depth guy while Monahan develops. |

Question to the many poster's I've seen making this connection:
How does signing a 3rd line LW to a PTO put pressure on your most skilled centre to sign an economical bridge deal?
Want to know what it's insurance for? If Colborne can't play the wing, or D'Amigo and Ashton don't show anything in camp to earn that spot.
Otherwise the two are mutually exclusive when it coms to Kadri and Raymond. Not everything in Leafland is a conspiracy or a diabolical plan. This was simply a smart hockey move created by a reduced cap and a capable player trying to find his game again after a serious injury. No risk, high reward. |

Alright, so counter offer is
Toronto
Liles + Colborne
Calgary
Large Regular from Tim Hortons
...? - Colin Dambrauskas
counter proposal
Toronto Liles, 4th round pick and a historic Tim Horton's jersey AND a large double double
Calgary 3rd pick and cruller |

Exactly.
The worst thing for Kadri is Colborne lighting it up at camp. And without Kadri there, I know who I would be slotting in the second line role... sends a pretty clear message. Colborne really hasn't played any consistent minutes with talented NHL players (meaning top 6)... he must be chomping at the bit for Kadri to hold out.

Kadri apparently wants 2 years at $3.5m AAV, Leafs offered two years at $2.85m AAV; time to give him one at $2.85m, one at $3.5m, $3.17m cap hit and have it done |

burn is always saying the Leafs actually have close to $8 million in space - scotch_tape
I am? Looks like you're mistaken.
They have 5.2 mil, subtracting a contract in d saves 900k, brings you to abot 6mil. If you eat half of liles contract somehow it could be 7mil. Never once said 8.

How would you guys feel with:
Toronto
Liles + Colborne
Calgary
2014 3rd round, 2015 4th round
Something to that extent. - Colin Dambrauskas
I would normally laugh at that deal , but given our cap situation
I'd probably do that but only after trying to swap out Colborne |

enough said.
a d-man that is mediocre in his own end and gets some high point totals cause he has a nice quick shot is not worth that much.. plain and simple.. typical toronto overhype. - Dozzer
He played ok in his own end last year, you're being tough on him. Now 2 seasons ago I would 100% agree not that he was really given had much of a chance.
Sign him already |

Burn keeps calculating 10% over the cap as its still preseason...but, theres no sense in saying the Leafs have $4.8M + 10% as regular season isnt exactly that far away. - Colin Dambrauskas
I never calculated the 10% into it, no point as they'd have to shed it elsewhere later.

I offer him 3.1 x 2 years. Right about the middle. A couple 100k's isn't going to make or break this team. |

I hope for the Leafs sake they can keep it to 3M AAV or under, though 3M on the dot would be fine. |

Gunnar plays 1st pairing D minutes, and gets paid like a bottom-end #2 D man. He has limited offense.
Franson has great offense, but has put up a decent 48 game season. He's inconsistent and is a giveaway machine. - doinktheclown
I don't think so, couple times last year got caught, but he was handed some pretty poopty passes IMO |

oh come on... let's not rip Nonis for the CAP situation.
a better argument, with a ton of real useful facts would be "should have kept Grabovski"... why did we sign Bozak.
Burke deserves the credit for getting the Leafs club shaped up the way he did prior to his departure.... but it was Nonis who quickly undid most of Burke's mistakes (Connolly, Komisarek, Lombardi) that allowed the team to become a team and get into the playoffs.
Burke signed Liles to the overpriced over termed deal.... not Nonis. - BorjeFan4Ever
Not all Burke's fault.. Afterall, Nonis is the one who gave Lupul $5.5M per on his 5 yr extension. |

Burke was a beast master when it came to making trades while in Toronto. Though he did shart from time to time like the Versteeg trade.
That said, Nonis has done okay himself so far. So far, still early... - systemtool
i'd say the Tlusty one was the worst. |
