Oh, I agree. But at the same time, he might still be bitter about his dismissal and would have no interest in helping the team that fired him. Even if it wasn't Nonis who actually fired him.
Though with Burke, he's always been an advocate of allowing teams to trade cap space, so he might have interest in that...if Nonis is willing to hand over a sweet pot of treasure. - systemtool
Exactly, it would cost the Leafs picks or prospects for Burke to take on cap space |

Gunnar plays 1st pairing D minutes, and gets paid like a bottom-end #2 D man. He has limited offense.
Franson has great offense, but has put up a decent 48 game season. He's inconsistent and is a giveaway machine. - doinktheclown
biggest issue with Gunnarson on the top pair, is his lack of physicality.... which translates in Dion having to do it all and making the large minutes he plays more difficult.
I like Gunnarson as a player, he's fairly reliable although his play last season was very shaky at times... but the team would be better served with a guy like Robyn Regehr from a few years back (in my opinion).
I'm hoping Ranger can regain his Tampa form and add the maturity of age, he's more physical than Gunnarson and he can move the puck a little. |

How is Burke at making trades? Are you sure you want Nonis to trade with him? - Symba007
Burke was a beast master when it came to making trades while in Toronto. Though he did shart from time to time like the Versteeg trade.
That said, Nonis has done okay himself so far. So far, still early... |

Capgeek says 4.85 mill, then move Liles and you have 8.85 million, I guess hes right. - bixll
Problem is, if youre moving Liles, youre not likely moving his entire salary.
Leafs can keep up to $1.9M of his salary if need be as he would be their 3rd retained salary until next year where both Scrivens and Frattin's retained salaries expire. |

with Burke in Calgary, I would hazard a guess that the Leafs might be able to structure a deal that sends Liles plus a prospect out there for a mid-to-late round draft pick.
Burke has always traded with the teams that he previously managed .. and I'm sure that the relationship between Nonis and Burke remains solid. Besides Burke is the one who created the CAP issues that the Leafs do have, which aren't huge - and he's faithful to his own detriment to players he's signed. - BorjeFan4Ever

I'm sure that Burke is bitter - with Leaf ownership. I have no doubt he'll use his pulpit in Calgary to shoot a few darts at the dink from LA... you know Mr. No Legacy....
but I also think Burke is a very much a prudent thinker... he's not going to not take a chance to improve Calgary because he has a bone to pick with some knob head who clearly has little clue how to behave.
If Burke can help Feaster to improve Calgary - he will. |

I seriously think Nonis has too much respect for him to use him like that, this is a legit chance and a wake-up call to anyone who thinks they are a lock for a job. |

I think we all know that if Burke can rip the Leafs off, he will, because he can smell the desperation. And that is what the issue is. Burke won't help the Leafs, no matter how brosef and broski he is with Nonis, unless he absolutely bends the team over and Lupul/Gardners them into orgasm.

How would you guys feel with:
Toronto
Liles + Colborne
Calgary
2014 3rd round, 2015 4th round
Something to that extent. |

If the leafs are in a position that they have to move a young talent like Finn than maybe they have the wrong guy sitting in the GM chair.. |

Fixed. And...because the Flames need Colborne for 3rd line as Stajan is OBV their first line guy
But, seriously.

nope... no Colborne unless payment is higher. Liles is actually a player that the Flames could use.
in my opinion Flames would be better off asking for Liles plus Orr or Mclaren... that would give them a genuine heavyweight who can stiffen their backs a bit...
McGratten is completely useless.. and I don't believe he's won a fight since he was with Ottawa. |

oh come on... let's not rip Nonis for the CAP situation.
a better argument, with a ton of real useful facts would be "should have kept Grabovski"... why did we sign Bozak.
Burke deserves the credit for getting the Leafs club shaped up the way he did prior to his departure.... but it was Nonis who quickly undid most of Burke's mistakes (Connolly, Komisarek, Lombardi) that allowed the team to become a team and get into the playoffs.
Burke signed Liles to the overpriced over termed deal.... not Nonis.
