Gonna be a CRAZY dog fight for 3rd place in the Eastern Atlantic divison. We know Bos & Det will fight for 1st & 2nd. The battle for 3rd will involve the Leafs, Habs, Sens, Caps, NYR, NYI & Philly. The pressure will be on to get a hold of that 3rd place to guarantee a playoff spot & have control of your own destiny. Rather than battle for a wild card spot but not have control of your fate.

I tend to agree. Detroit was on the downside, last year, and got in on the last night of the season. They're major stars are now in their mid 30's and many of their character players are moving on. I wouldn't call their defense and goaltending overwhelming either.

Trust me, I have learned that lesson many times...

It's just the aging core, and playing in the east could catch up to them. At least I hope! It would be good news for us both!

Absolutely. People do realize that Detroit just barely scratched out a bottom seed in the East last year, right?

Yes, they pulled off a first round upset. Nobody is disputing that they have enough horsepower to do that from time to time. But they are an over-the-hill team that doesn't really have any ability to magically get better.

Guys don't all simultaneously have career years together in their 30's.

They can line up with the Habs and Sens, in the all world smurf team. Hell, they could even have their own Allstar game, with all players under 5' 9". The Wings are being over-valued and I think that they'll be struggling to get into the playoffs past the third seed in the Northeast.(I hate calling it the Atlantic, because it isn't!)
