um... never said that. But if Franson, Gardiner, Rielly, and Phaneuf are the top 4 D on this team in 2 years, Leafs are not a playoff team.

Unless Rielly and Gardiner both become Neidermeyer pt 2 and 3

- Big_Lightnin

Oh, I thought it was make stuff up day.

They could be a playoff team. Who knows. We made the playoffs with Kostka in our top 4, so I don't see why we can't with an improved top 4.

Dan Cleary signs with Flyers, 3 years $7.75 million!

Where do they get the money?

- bixll

cause they fooled couturier into signing for peanuts. Best cap hit in the league right now.

Plus.. Pronger $5M LTIR discount.

People often look at capgeek and forget that as soon as regular season starts, they receive relief from Pronger's $4.9M as an LTIR.

If we can get Kadri and Franson into this lineup, I'm pretty confident this team will do well.

maybe there is a reason no team seems to be overly concerned with losing him?

it just seems that nobody really cares.. there has to be a reason for that.

- Dozzer

I dont see where this is coming from. They seem to care about Franson as much as they do about Kadri, going by your logic. Guess they're both useless busts?

Kostka wasn't on the roster when they clinched the playoffs

I don't sign Gunnar until I get Franson locked up first. Should have let it go to arbitration.
- systemtool

If you let gunner go to arb he gets more than he already got. 3mil for gunner is a good deal.

Franson had the opportunity to go to arb and inexplicably didn't. I think he's getting bad advice.

If you're referring to Nashville, they assumed that Suter and Weber were sticking. It's also a team that let Hamhuis and Timonen go. Either way I don't think I can convince you of Franson's worth, and likewise, I don't think you can convince me he's not a keeper. C'est la vie.

So, anyone know much about Grannberg? Anyone see the rookie tourney?

He was until he got hurt. He clearly wasn't ready when the NHL season started.

I doubt he gets more than 3.

For doing what? He wouldn't have a good case in his favour. I agree Franson should have hit arbitration, but that wouldnt have worked out well for Toronto cause Franson could make a case with his point totals. Hard to win arbitration on defensive play that doesn't show up on paper, whereas hits and points are more solid factors.

had a few good shifts and a few bad ones. Kind of guy you aren't going to notice though... if he's playing well.

Now MacWilliam BEAST

not what i mean

1: nashville moved him to get out from under lombardi's salary.. which really wasnt a whole lot.. and only for two more years.. they couldnt of been that attached to him

2: the leafs consistently have benched him, and stood strong on contractual demands.. they obviously dont feel pressure to get him signed

just seems everywhere this guy goes teams seem to have no issue going on without him. that says something to me.

I tried to look it up and got lazy. He played about 75% of the season, so we did make the playoffs despite Kosta, who logged big minutes (phaneuf minutes) when he did play.

Nashville is a budget team though. They couldnt afford Franson, when they had better Dmen to pay, and they needed to ditch $$.

We just bought Grabo out. I don't think this should suggest that Grabo isn't a very good hockey player, especially when compared to who the Leafs chose to actually keep instead of him.

Franson would likely have been traded by now if Toronto didnt really care to keep him.

Seriously? He's #2 in minutes played on the D over the last 3 seasons. He's been Dion's partner as the #2 more than anybody else in that time frame. That makes him a top pairing dman for the Leafs, and that's how arbitration works.

He would have gotten $4M + without breaking a sweat.

Minutes played is a massive factor, and the only stat that really matters. The coaching staff... 2 of them... used him as the #2 dman on the team.

cha-ching

Yea, but then he got passed in favour of others come playoff time, and they could show that his level of play fell off.

4 million for Gunnar?

Ill have to disagree that minutes played matters more than point totals.
