Phaneuf was our best Dman last year. Franson was second.

Gunnar is the odd man out in this case.

I fault the whole team for that, but in the end, Gunnar looked lost out there even if people want to put the blame solely on Phaneuf. Yes, repeat it more. 2 goals, gunnar, 2 goals.

- systemtool

you can only blame the pairing.. they work together.. or they should

do i think gunnar is being used out of his element? yes.. said so repeatedly now.

he is a second pairing guy being force fed first pairing minutes.

you know what would actually be a good pairing now that i think of it?

franson gunnar

yes i went there lol

so why invest more in him then?

sign him and trade him.. otherwise you let him walk for nothing

- Dozzer

Wtf?

My point is that we shouldnt have let it get to this and should have not taken him for granted. That hes someone we should not be allowing to walk, yet we keep holding the door open for him.

Like myself, and almost everyone else here has been saying, it will be a shame if this team loses Franson just so they could keep Gunnar.

Ya... cause Franson's puck chasing up by the top of the circle on the OT goal is what we want instead right?

Seriously... Franson wasn't on the ice the last 1:30 of regulation cause he'd aleady made it clear he couldn't handle Lucic AT ALL the entire series.

He should not be making a penny less than Gunnar. It's a shame that we're making examples out of Kadri and Franson, two players who could have a big role in this teams future.
- systemtool

source?

Not bending over for the agents and giving them blank checks is not making examples.

we have no idea what is on the table for Franson, but I seriously doubt it's less than the Gunnar deal.

Bolland, Frazer, and or Clarkson in there and it was a different outcome. Three players who were not available to the Leafs at the time.

that doesn't in any way mean they should play together on the top pair.
- Big_Lightnin

Exactly - NEVER!!!!!

They both need babysitters

Gunner for Phaneuf and Fraser for Franson

Now we need to find a big time sitter for Gardiner if he even starts with the big club

Of course he keeps holding out when the team keeps low balling him. Dmen who can do more than one thing well are more valuable. Gunnar is a shutdown stay at home dman who collapsed under the pressure of game 7 last year. Trade that bum and stop going cheap with the guys who can actually have a future with this team.

We need more than just reliable back there, and we need more than what Gunnar gave us when Boston scored 2 goals in the last 2 minutes. Dmen who can score and throw hits are better than Dmen who can...well...be reliably unreliable.

If fine with keeping Gunnar, but not at the expense of Franson.

I wonder though just how much that hip limited his play. That Bruin series was pretty intense.

Never said they should.....Im just ranking their level of performance.

I disagree with you though, I don't think they should trade Gardner.

Fraser is bottom pairing. I don't see Franson-Fraser playing together this year.

I read ( if your still talking Franson) that he's not mad at all and he realizes this is just part of the biz!!!

um... never said that. But if Franson, Gardiner, Rielly, and Phaneuf are the top 4 D on this team in 2 years, Leafs are not a playoff team.

Unless Rielly and Gardiner both become Neidermeyer pt 2 and 3

People often look at capgeek and forget that as soon as regular season starts, they receive relief from Pronger's $4.9M as an LTIR.

maybe there is a reason no team seems to be overly concerned with losing him?

it just seems that nobody really cares.. there has to be a reason for that.
