on this note, LOVED what I saw from Andrew MacWilliam in the rookie tourney. Year on the Marlies and working with underhill to get his skating going, and this guy will be a beast of a 5/6. Nice replacement for Fraser when he asks for too much money next contract.

it was a bad 10mins and no.. the inability to shut the door with a big lead negates all the postives from that series.

it just showed the entire league how to beat the leafs D.. pressure them hard and they fall apart. watch for other teams to do that this upcoming season.. i'll bet money on the fact other teams do exactly that,.

it was not being able to clear out the front of the net.. do anything to make it happen.. take a penalty to draw one.. hack his legs.. get into a fight.. do whatever it takes

Anything can happen and I think it's pretty exciting.

You know, thinking about it....it would mean Phaneuf would never have to carry the puck up the ice, and therefore he'd never be out of position....just playing devil's advocate haha

Why blame Franson though? Gunnar was on for 2 of the 3 goals during that 10 minutes. If Gunnar did his job as well as you think he can, we would have made that 2nd round. We leaned on our defensive Dman at our most crucial moments and he let us down. Franson can be as good as he is in their end AND contribute some offense too.

i am hopeful these changes were made with a very specific plan in mind.. a lot of the leafs attack last year relied on speed

Healthy Fraser for those last 2 mins would have been a whole different ending... possibly.

..but Gunnar-Franson would be a solid 2nd pairing that still produces offense and isn't a liability defensively, and is the ideal slot for both players.

Problem, as is well known, is Leafs have 4-5 second pairing guys, and only 1 top pairing.

Hence Rielly NEEDS to be the real deal.

Gunner has to babysit Phaneuf - it's the only option other than Fraser and I wouldn't even turn on the tv if Fraser is playing against OVIE or CROSBY or STAMKOS etc etc he looks stopped when those top players go by him
