i thought he had bumped liles down .. i cant remember the game one lineup without checking
- Dozzer

yup.

Gardiner-Franson became the 2nd pairing after Fraser went down.

I'm still back and forth on that pairing honestly. the ideal I think would be Gunnar-Franson as 2nd pairing, and Dion-Gardiner ( ) as the top... but then that's iffy also.

Fraser just isn't a 2nd pairing guy and shouldn't be out there against other teams 2nd line speed.

No, but all that offense from our D is what even got us to game 7 in the first place.

You're right, he's not a prospect. He's a guy who finished tied for 6th in the entire league among d-men in points, one more than Shea Weber and Phaneuf. And the only guy with over 100 hits in the league to not get a poopload of penalties. Only 4 d-men in the entire league had 20 points and 100 hits this past season: Franson, Phaneuf, Weber and Seabrook. Of the four he's the youngest.

It was a bad 5 minutes or so, but over all, to take Boston to the brink of elimination like that spoke volumes. Especially for a team with very little playoff experience.
- systemtool

it was a bad 10mins and no.. the inability to shut the door with a big lead negates all the postives from that series.

it just showed the entire league how to beat the leafs D.. pressure them hard and they fall apart. watch for other teams to do that this upcoming season.. i'll bet money on the fact other teams do exactly that,.

that's not what I said Steve. Ironically, though they're both from the same hometown and are great friends.

You know, thinking about it....it would mean Phaneuf would never have to carry the puck up the ice, and therefore he'd never be out of position....just playing devil's advocate haha

ya Iknow... issues.

..but Gunnar-Franson would be a solid 2nd pairing that still produces offense and isn't a liability defensively, and is the ideal slot for both players.

Problem, as is well known, is Leafs have 4-5 second pairing guys, and only 1 top pairing.

Hence Rielly NEEDS to be the real deal.

he was also the guy who couldnt clear out the front of the net.. a basic defensive principal

now.. neither could anyone else.. but thats kind of what i am getting at.

I remember when we lost game 7 overtime against Boston when they won the cup.

"We're so close to a cup if we can take them this far" some said.

We finished dead last in the east the year after.
