no need for childish insults.. beneath you.

i dont like fransons game.. he made some progress this year but i expect him to regress yet again.. always been his way.. takes a step forward.. then steps back again.

pair him with a true stay at home guy and line him up against 3rd and fourth lines and fine.. he'll work.. but you put him up against top lines.. he'll get burned over and over.

How is that a childish insult? Wow, you're touchy and emotional today. I can see the trigger finger twitching.

Have a good day. Well, I hope it gets better at least.

I would take Franson over Gunnar 8 days of the week. Without hesitating.

I agree with most of your points...but hes more than a $2M guy. Id put him in the $3M range, personally.

26 years old, 6'5 215lbs

243 NHL games - 100pts...thats more than a $2M player, imo.

He's a 35-45pt guy who's improved his defensive play a bit and has also added a physical aspect to his game. He can still learn and improve.

Can't do it. Too tight. Even if you give both Kadri and Franson 2.9 say and Raymond only 700K plus only go with 12 forwards and 21 players overall. You barely make it under.

Bozak 4.2
Kessel 5.4
Lupul 5.25
JVR 4.25
Bolland 3.375
Kulemin 2.8
McClement 1.5
Orr 0.925
Kadri 2.9
Raymond 0.7
McClaren 0.7
Clarkson 5.25

Phaneuf 6.5
Liles 3.895
Gardiner 1.116
Gunnarson 3.15
Fraser 1.275
Franson 2.9
Ranger 1

Reimer 1.8
Bernier 2.9

Buyouts and Retained Salary 2.5

Players 21

Total Salary 64.286
Cap 64.3
Over/Under 0.014

Still convinced something has to happen with Liles. Easiest way out of this situation.

if Franson signs for $2M as per Dreger, it'll open up cap room for Colborne. The only thing that may need to be done is to move holzer. Holzer for a 3rd to Calgary?

I think both colborne and holzer will have to clear waivers if sent down to the Marlies.... anybody know the rules?

i dont think he's great.. just better than franson
- Dozzer

I dont care for this argument, personally...

Youre comparing two different types of players. One is a stay at home shut down defender who is steady in his own zone and rarely jumps up with the play, while the other is an offensive defender who often jumps into the play, leads rushes (at times), and gets a lot of shots on net. While one is great in his own end, the other isnt so great and vis versa.

Just not a fair comparison.

as a defenseman your job is defense first offense second.

if you cant do the first thing the second really doesnt matter.

I did. I have no way of knowing if you did or didn't. Your reaction to it is childish.

You miss alot of games playing band in bars. How the eff do I know if you watched most of the games. Especially if you insist Franson, who was better than Gunnar, wasn't better than Gunnar.

I thought McCabe and Kaberle provided alot of great and entertaining years for the fans until the team fell apart. I thought they were great for the team for a few years, but wore their welcome out in the new NHL post lockout. You probably thought Frogren was a steal at the time, didn't you?

Good day.

That said, he's defensively quite underrated in my mind. Over his four-year career, opponents have averaged 0.741 goals per 20 minutes, but that's just 0.688 against Franson. Seeing as he played two seasons during Nashville's peak as a defensive team and two seasons with the defensively inept Toronto Maple Leafs, I think some things average out. His teammates allowed 0.780 goals against per 20 minutes with him not on the ice so I'd like to think that Franson generally improves his team's defensive fortunes, although that said, Franson has gotten some pretty easy minutes. The 0.741 goals per 20 minutes is 180th out of 186 qualified defencemen over the last four seasons. [linky link for stats. Franson is considerably better than a 5/6 dman...Leafs fans are nuts, but he is worth way more than $2M.
