I am not sure what you mean. As a player, I don't think JT will change anything, he has been a captain at other levels. He was nominated for the Hart last year. What did Toews bring that JT does not? - bixll
Jonathan Toews is the #1 captain in the league who can inspire his team to stop at nothing to win, because he'll do it himself. He's sacrificed some of his offense to become a better 2-way player. He's a very good go-between from the players and the coach, and is one of the more classy players in the game. I don't think Tavares is on the same level with him right now, but I can see him becoming that type of leader. |

Majority of people on facebook are complaining that KO didn't get it. - mighty13duck
really? have they watched him play for the entire past 2+ seasons? not exactly a model of consistency. love kyle but i am still waiting to see him fully find his game and reach or even(dare I think it) exceed his potential. 1000% right choice is JT. |

Yashin, DP, Boyes Reasoner and Martinek are being given a tryout. - mighty13duck
Arthur Staple @StapeNewsday 54m
Seems likely D Radek Martinek will come to #Isles camp on PTO. Brad Boyes apparently choosing between #Isles and one other team.

there was absolutely no legitimate argument that could be put forth in support of a vote for captain for any other player than JT. Best player on the team. Hardest working player on the team. Most visable and marketable player on the team. Likely the most respected guy in the room. A league-wide superstar talent. A world-class person. Anyone on Facebook seriously advocating that KO should have been named captain over JT needs to turn in their fan card, because clearly those people haven't watched the last 4 years of Isles hockey. |

It's not even worth discussing any further. Anyone who thinks a player other than John Tavares should have been captain knows literally nothing about hockey. |

JT deserved Hart last year, he literally willed them into the playoffs. JT probably will be in that discussion rather soon |

If you break it down to the exact literal definition of MVP, yeah he probably did deserve it. But he never seriously had a shot at it, I think deep down everybody knew that. I'm fine it with, those awards are nice but all I care about is him being healthy and in an Isles sweater. |

It can be fun if you're not the person who uses it as a platform to force-feed your personal views on politics, religion, etc... on everyone who has to read it. |

The people that scare me are the ones that use it to become "informed" on the world around them. They read all of those personal views and believe them as fact, then they try and pass them on as something they "saw on the news".
so friggen sad

It's kind of like people on here starting to think that one team is going to trade with another because Ek said so. |

Watched the presser. Snow looks like he's getting a bit thick in the waist. He's bigger than Cappy.
In all seriousness, the sooner the season starts, the better. I can't wait for opening night. - Jethro09
We are exactly one week from the first pre-season game so we aren't that far off!!! It may only be a preseason game but I am all excitied like a little kid just before Christmas!!! |

Personally I think Tavares is better. Toews hasn't been tested with tough times. The kid has played with elite talent since he first stepped into the league. It's, on a lesser level, making a comparision between Gretzky and Lemieux's careers as of 1989. Sure, Gretz had more cups at that point, but he also had spent his whole career with an friggin' all star team. Lemieux willed his team to become a contender.
Toews is a great player and has had a splendid early career but it's pretty damn easy to be a successful captain playing on a team like that. I'd bet if he were here in Tavares place last year the Isles wouldn't have made the playoffs. End of story.
