Shad up mug! - Woderwick
i'm not suggesting it... just predicting the media trash....
like when that moron said kessel said he wasn't going to negotiate during the season... wrong, what he said was he wasn't going to talk about it....
kessel will be signed before the olympics... 8yrs @ 60-66million.... but of course, because he signed in toronto, that'll be over payment for a top5 goal scorer..
book it!! |

Agreed. Leafs could easily replace his 27 minutes a night playing against other teams top lines and first line pk & pp minutes. - SameOld
When he played that many minutes he hurt the team.

Flames defense is already packed with high priced veteran D-men, but my source said the move could come later in the year "after some of the other excess baggage has been dealt with". - Eklund
Excess baggage? How much baggage does this team have?? All they have been doing for the last 3 years is jettison baggage. |

Looks like to me they still have a handful of players they need to get out of town for a fresh start.
wideman, stajan, stempniak, cammalleri
EDIT: kinda looks like the package for the reverse fanueph trade burke would love to make. |

"Hurt the team" is a statement that only makes sense relative to his replacement.
We were a much better team for the remainder of the season after we traded for him. We were much worse when he got that nasty cut on his leg.
Every defenseman not named Lidstrom is going to make a mistake or two when he plays league-leading minutes against the most difficult opponents with more defensive starts than most top pairing guys.
If you want to see a team truly hurting, consider that Carl Gunnarsson is the #1 defenseman without him. There is not one guy on his roster who could come close to bringing what Phaneuf does.
It's Toronto. We eat our best defensemen alive. Put Gardiner or Franson up against Crosby/Ovechkin/Nash every night and suddenly our future stars would be run out of town. |

Dion was so over rated for so long he is now becoming under rated...forget about money you are right. Phanuef is far better than anyone the Oilers have and is the best on the Leafs by a country mile. - flashfire
He is an upcoming FA, you can't forget the money right now. Its all about the money....how much for how long? He isn't going to take a haircut unless the term is a killer. 7 for 7, 7 for 8.....? Pay him or trade him because no matter how you feel about his value you can't just let 30 mins/night walk. |

Put Phaneuf up against Crosby/Ovech/Nash and he will be run out of town too..oopss..that's what we are doing...I never seen an NHL'r fall down so much while being danced. (frank) I won't shed a tear and I think your love for Phaneuf has blinded your hockey senses |

He's not going to walk. Leafs will trade him for a couple 3rd rounders.
Fingers crossed they turn out to be just like Zetterberg/Datsyuk |

Moulson is a 3 time 30 goal scorer. Thats not really a mid level trade. Also, no way the Isles trade Moulson. He is JT's boy and Moulson will re-sign because he knows JT butters his bread.
It doesnt seem like the Preds have the Veteran Dman to spare the Isles would want. This is doesnt seem plausible. Plus, Snow is always tight lipped on transactions. If the Isles need a Dman I think they would look to LA or PHX. - cawala
Moulson would be good to have but not at the expense of any of our 3 experienced D. Maybe a ready to go prospect and a 2nd or 3rd round pick, but the Isles wouldn't go for that. What would Snow and Poile do without me?

Seth Jones for Taveres? - predsfan97
Poile was taking Jones if he had first pick. You couldn't pry Seth out of Poile's grubbies for Crosby. Well, maybe if Sid made half of what he does. |

That is amazing. The only thing the Oilers are missing is another dman. They only have 10 NHL dmen right now and 2 rookies trying for a spot. They have no third line and their fourth line is embarrassing. 1.5 mill of cap space left. No backup goalie that can stop a puck. If they can get that 11th dman they will have almost enough so none of their great young prospects can play on their AHL team. Which is smart. I hope they have found a way for some of these guys to play third line wing and center. Maybe they will be the first team where their bottom two lines will be ALL defense men. Make up for not having upgraded their goal tending. |

Toronto should only trade Phaneuf if someone is willing to overpay. Like the return the pens got for Jordan Staal or better.
Phaneuf will likely only want a 5 year deal at 7-7.5M per year which is not bad for a defenseman who eats 23+ minutes a night successfully. The reason I think he would want 5 years is that he will be 34 when the contract expires meaning he will be 1 year under the 35+ rule and can sign his final contract for as long as he wants without the team getting screwed.
If he signs an 8 year deal he will be 37 and likely would only be able to get 1 year deals and probably make less money in the end.
Anyway my point is the Leafs will have to pay a top defenseman 7M+ for the next 5 years to be competitive so they might as well keep Phaneuf unless somehow they can turn the pieces they get from Phaneuf with others for a Pietrangelo level player. |

You can throw any explanation or excuse you want, it won't make up for what I've seen him do on the ice since he came into the league.
There's a very good ready MANY people don't like him.
Hopefully he gets traded to Anaheim or something and we don't have to see him anymore.
