I think Leaf fans with enjoy having him on the team and watching him as us Devil fans have but you will always be thinking about the price you paid for him and wonder if it is really worth it. When it comes down to it he is a pro and has had many coaches over the years. I just found it interesting the connection between him and Deboer and his success was it all just coincidence ? was he destined to break out the last two years regardless of Pete being here or not? or was his higher success a product of Deboer. I can say the things he is bad at all day but you can with any player, we loved him and wish he stayed but certainly not at the price.

Fair enough. I'm excited to see what he can do in a leafs uniform and hoping he becomes a good wingman for kadri.

I'm personally not a fan of contracts > 5 yrs. Too much risk. In general, franchise players and moves to bring guys in for a cup run are the only times I think you should exceed 5 years. I'm not certain clarkson fits into either of these categories with the leafs.

Well I wish him well. I kind of see it like this though had you been able to sign him to 4 million (hometown haircut) then you would have Kadri and Franson signed by now. I also think JVR will have a big year for you guys I am pretty high on him. If he has a coming out party as a Leaf it won't matter near as much wether or not Clarkson is producing

The problem with Clarkson, is kinda like the problem Bolland(ironically both on the leafs now)had in Chicago. They're a bit too good in a 3rd line role, but not quite top 6 players. When Clarky scored his 30 goals, he was playing behind guys like Parise, Kovy, and Elias who demand attention from other teams top Dmen, so he got more favourable matchups. Turn to this season, where he was basically slotted in on the 2nd line, and while he came out of the gate hot, he couldn't buy a goal for 3/4ths of the season.
