last year's pace would've given him 50+ pts...

He can probably be re-signed for a year or two at a similar salary than now and more years tacked on with a decrease in salary...that would be a good deal for a defensemen that'll give you 50+ pts per year for a couple more years before decreasing to 40+ pts...(and later on serve as a 6th D and PP specialist...

He's still useful, and I don't see why he wouldn't be able to play another 3-4 years at a high level...maybe even more. A few of those injuries were freak injuries that won't happen again...

- number_23

Did you watch him play? Not only did he tire out near the end of a half season, his mobility was shot.

He got paid 5 plus million before the knee injuries because he was solid in all aspects of the game, great offensively, solid defensively and always in Position do to his wonderfully skating and mobility. He could Pivot on a dime and chase down almost anyone that got past him.
Last year, if he got beat he was done. If he is going to be as effective as he once was defensively, he is going to have to forget what he used to be able to do and change the way he approaches defense positioning.

If he wants to stick around past this year and he can't be more effective defensively then he was last year then he would have to get paid for what he can bring to the table right now, and based on last year that is a PP specialist.

No PP specialist is worth 5.75mil

You have to get past the nostaligia of what he once was and see him for what he is now.

Dunno.

Guess they hope Erne, Sorensen and Duclair all fulfill their potential?

I would had said that, but that would be disrespectful to guy that has served the team for so long like he has.

I would think they don't trade him at the deadline unless he wants to be moved, out of respect for him. And if he wants to stay on after that at a lower salary then fine, if not good luck to whoever wants to take the risk on him.

Was it a full season? If you were to round to the nearest half season, what would it be?

Or do you really want people to say the 0.5853658536 of a season?

it's unlikely that Montreal is in a position to sell at the deadline.
