really disappointed no one has posted a Gagne reference yet....
- watsonnostaw

No need. Everyone knows that it's a guarantee that he's back as soon as Pronger it LTIRed.

i've said heeter will one day man the pipes as our starter. not based on anything but a gut feeling. i'm sure i'll be wrong though.
- hammarby31

I don't know if you're serious or not, but you're correct about one thing... you will be wrong. I've seen Heeter play at both Ohio St. and with the Phantoms and he's a borderline NHL prospect. His ceiling would probably be as a serviceable NHL backup but there's no guarantee he'll ever even reach the NHL. I personally believe Carsen Chubak has a higher ceiling, altho he's a fringe player as well. If Heeter is playing games for the Flyers over the next season or two then something has gone seriously wrong. Of the Flyers Goaltending prospects, Stolarz obviously has the best shot of becoming an NHL starter.

Bought my Wings/Flyers tickets in Detroit for October 12th. NHL14 comes out tomorrow. Preseason game coming this Sunday I believe. Rookie game today. Center ice on the way.

I don;t think they'd bring in both Gagne and Cleary
- Jsaquella

So you think Gagne is SOL?

Not really. There's other teams interested in Cleary, so they'd probably have to sign him, rather than get by with a PTO.

If Cleary signs elsewhere, I think we'll see a PTO go out to Gagne

Less than Gagne and/or Laughton would be.
- jmatchett383

laughton is better off playing center in juniors this yr and gags is not the right complement for couts/read. cleary would also be ok.

I was just reading that no team in the NHL is paying less for their goaltending this year (I guess you have to count the Bryz buyout so maybe we are actually paying more LOL) at 3.15 mil. It's weird but I feel quite confident with the duo even though they are on the cheap. I expect goaltending to be solid. I never had any issue with Ray in 09/10 before he got hurt and have actually watched closely as he came back with Anaheim and Chicago. I know he's had to adjust his game and he played for a powerhouse Chi team, but I think he is going to do well here. If Mason can build on the end of last year, I think we'll be happy.

Also, I know it's been discussed, but I am looking forward to having two tenders who can play the puck and assist the D. Bryz played it like a hand grenade and it always worried me. I think it'll will reduce some wear and tear on the D corps.

It really depends on what's going the other way. It'd make sense if we could clear up some salary/a roster spot (like the long awaited and now unlikely Meszaros trade), but Washington isn't swimming in cap space, either.
- BulliesPhan87

yea, both teams need to clear space. the 1st unfortunate injury to a significant dman somewhere around the league may provide an opp to move someone. always liked chimera for that role.

I'm not gonna get into the whole Laughton thing. Far past beating a dead horse.

So, do you not want Gagne back? If you do, and he's not a compliment for the 3rd line, where do you see him? He's not a top-6 player, and the top-6 is full. He's not a 4th liner either.

Today is the first day I am really pumped with the rookie game. I think the first exhibition game isn't until next Wednesday.

Edit: just read Kipper officially retired from the Flames...

That was the same case in 09/10 with Emery and Boucher. It didn't go exactly as planned, but it worked out pretty well for the team until ol' 5-hole showed up. That's our M.O. when we get to the Finals.

They reportedly have interest in Daniel Cleary...got to admit, I'd prefer Cleary over Gagne for the possible open spot next to Couturier and Read. He's got more grit than Gagne, and he's been less prone to injury than Gags.

Also, as a UFA, Cleary doesn't cost any assets.

- Jsaquella

cleary plays the game the right way and can be moved up in the lineup in a pinch. would still prefer chimera for size/speed combo, but as you noted, DC wouldn't cost any assets.

Seems to be our M.O. for the last two finals at least although I think we had a real shot at beating Chicago and not so much at beating Detroit. I like our forwards and goalies, but I am curious to see how the D corps shakes down especially with Streit. I wonder if his defensive shortcomings will hurt us more than his puck moving will help.

they'll prob be something like a B- tandem, but that would be an improvement. for me, the weak link is mason. if he is less than adequate, it forces emery to handle a bigger load than he's likely capable of. i think we'll see that play out at times this season, but they'll handle it like pros and that'll be refreshing.

Gagne in my opinion is the perfect compliment to Couturier and Read on that third line, so question.

Because he'd be a perfect fit on the third line. Decent speed, skill & grit package for a third line role. Also, not as prone to injury as Gagne, and probably won't cost much

Apparently he's a real wiener off the ice, and beloved by Newfoundland. Other than that, I can't say I know a damn thing about him.

Aside from his concussion in 2012, Gagne has missed 28 games since 2010. Cleary has missed 39. I know a concussion's a big one, but it's like like Gagne's more prone than Cleary.

He's older then Gagne. He's not as creative offensively as Gagne. He has a defensive game but that might be a wash between the two. Maybe

To go along with his 15 points and -6 in the regular season.

Edit: 5 of those points were PPG, and he'd get zero PP time here.
