They went 11-5 down the stretch, beating 9 playoff teams, all of whom were fighting for position. While I don't place too much on them as a sign that a corner was completely turned, I'm not going to ignore them, either.

I'm sure Bryzgalov started a few of those games, so they obviously don't count. Gagne played in most, if not all, so we can wipe them out, too.

I honestly placed no stock in those final games.

It's hard for me to get excited when they were out of contention, with nothing to play for except for pride or to get noticed, and playing defensmen who won't see the ice again next year unless there's another meltdown.

What I was pleased to see was the play of both Lauridsen and Mason who were outstanding. I'd like both to ride that into this season.
