So Kadri and Franson are the priorities, but if they don't want to sign reasonable deals then the whole franchise should halt operations until they get done? That makes zero sense.
This is just like the Tanev situation. He had no leverage so his agent said there was interest from the KHL. The next day came a report that the Canucks had interest in Doug Murray. Days later Tanev's contract was signed. - KB3Point0
I don't know maybe we just see it differently. Camps are starting up if it was mid off season that is one thing but you would think they would want these guys at camp. I also look at it as Kadri has been treated like poop by the Leafs since they drafted him for the sole reason that the Sens where picking after the Leafs and liked him. Franson was another guy who was traded to the Leafs and was basically told he wasn't good enough to play for the Leafs ( a regular non play off team ) when he was a regular on a Preds team that had been making the playoffs. The Leafs go out and spend big bucks but are cheaping out on these two it confuses me. |

meh, it's only money
I think he fits the leafs, they get Kadri and Franson signed..I think we have a real solid team..especially if our goaltending improves, even just a smidge. - Garnie
That's the point, it isn't about the salary, it's about the cap hit. So it isn't just money. It's an inability to use that portion of the cap over the next 7 years because it's tied up in a guy who just turned 29 and has only scored more than 24 points twice in his career. |

hopefully the same happens with Franson and Kadri..or at least 1 of these mofo's - Garnie
Kadri's gotta get done. He has zero leverage and he's completely in the wrong. Sign the bridge deal and play hockey. |

They didn't tell him they wanted him to leave, he told them he wanted to leave. Big difference.
Also, his cap hit is a bargain. The only problem with his contract is it's length and the fact that there are recapture penalties if he retires before the contract ends (which is more than likely).
Here's an easy way around those pesky recapture penalties which make his contract quite reasonable. If he retires with 3 years left on his deal, trade his rights to a team looking to hit the cap floor (as the cap is expected to be over $80M by that point, there will be numerous teams trying to hit the $66M floor). They buy his contract out for $2.4M, but save around $12M by using his cap hit to hit the floor over the next 6 years. - KB3Point0[/q]
misread the buyout part of your post. seems like it would work. |

ah...cap will go up..maybe he's overpaid by a mill or 2 but it's what was needed to get the guy they wanted...if you can't get your team together because of Clarkson...there will be lots of teams in trouble...
I like Clarkson, i'm going to buy the jersey RIGHT (frank)ING NOW |

This draft (2013) really saved Mike Gillis as far as drafting goes. I was starting to think he was as bad as Dave Nonis. Still unproven talent from 2013, but it looks promising. - LeftCoaster
Too early to judge a lot of Gillis's picks. Several of them are on the verge of breaking into the league.
I'd expect you to realize that more than most since you grew up playing hockey.
Gillis's drafting has been good.
BPA in the first rounds, and a few of his later picks look to be NHLers. I really don't see what there is to complain about... |

Don't worry bout Kadri man. He plays for the Leafs, you should hate him, more than you've hated any hateful hater in your life. |

Leverage? Well there's always the KHL for a year. I'm sure him and Franson could get the same sort of money from Ufa
Then when Leafs miss the playoffs fans will begging Nonis to sign him |

Yeah, as I noted in another post, it's the same leverage Tanev used. And the Leafs bringing in Raymond is the same leverage as when the next day there was a report that the Canucks were interested in Murray. Wouldn't be surprised to see Kadri sign this week. |

I understand how it all works Fosco. The last three drafts won't be judged for a few years, it's his 08-09-10 drafts that I'm referring to. 17 picks, should be more but that's another debate, and only one NHL player. It's not his BPA first round picks that concern me, it's the later picks that somewhat annoy me!!! |

PK Subban had more leverage than Kadri but saw the light and signed the bridge deal. Kadri has less than 100 games on his resume and wants to be paid like a seasoned veteran. Time for a reality check Nazim.

yes of course you would...
If Lou plays like he has been...you will be getting an early start to the golf season.
Not sure why the hate so much for Clarkson...I'm sure the Nuckleheads would have signed him if they could. - Garnie

Just reading in the Sun he was an RFA, wasn't re-signed so he's gone back to Europe to play. - LeftCoaster
He was qualified though, so he's still our property. A lot of potential but didn't have the body to put on more muscle and battled shoulder injuries. Hopefully he'll be able to grow more in europe, where there won't be nearly as much contact. |

I think a lot of Rodin's development issues were because Vancouver didn't have much control over their own AHL team. Rodin was a healthy scratch far too many times over the past few years to develop correctly.
Give him a year in Sweden to get his confidence back and bring him into main camp next season. |

I would disagree with that. same idea maybe, but far different impacts
Tanev goes to Russia, Vancouver is missing a No. 6 D
Franson or Kadri go to Russia, Toronto is out a No. 2 D and/or a No. 1 centre

The Leafs' #3 LW on the depth chart is Frazer McLaren. That's the reason Raymond was brought in would be my guess. |

It's called leverage. Hey Naz, you want 6 years @ $5M per? Guess what, MayRay'll play for $1M and he's already here at camp.
And if he plays well enough to take someone else's job, all the better for the Leafs. It's a win-win situation for them.
I don't understand how you'd have a problem with it? - KB3Point0
um... Raymond plays the Wing..... and 3rd line winger doesn't replace 2nd line center.... didn't we try that last year???
