I really hope Morgan Rielly makes the big club. With nothing left to prove down in the minors it would benefit him way more if he made the Leafs, even as the 7th defenseman being rotated in. If he can play 50-60 NHL games that would benefit him more than the 60 WHL games he will play, plus the Leafs will still have the option of sending him to the World Juniors. At the very least he should get his 9 game stint. Unfortunately the salary cap may keep this from happening. Liles needs to go. |

If he earns a spot than he should and IMO I think he is very capable of that. |

No. Even if he seems like he fits in and earned his spot it will be born from a small sample size against alot of non NHLers. Also its a long season and he's more than likely not ready for it. I feel that with young players, extra seasons in the O and A HL's are best for development. Especially for a team like the Leafs aho are deep at the position and face alot of pressures most markets dont see. |

I really don't think it is in the Leafs best interest to have him on the roster this year unless he blows them so far out of the water there is literally no option at all.
Defenceman who try to learn defence in the NHL tend to get (frank)ed a little because playoff bubble coaches are more worried about winning games than letting a kid screw up as a learning process.
Send him back to junior, throw some money at Moose Jaw so they trade him to a contender like Calgary or maybe Kamloops. |

The guy has nothing to prove in the WHL and if anything he will just pickup bad habits of carrying the puck and going end to end and doing everything on his own all of the time like Kadri did for the London Knights. It took Kadri a few years to realize he wasn't in the OHL anymore. JML is most likely going to be a healthy scratch for a bunch of games. That spot should be Rielly's. He would be better off playing 50-60 NHL games while practicing with professional players and learning the systems. Much more beneficial in my opinion. If he was eligible to play in the AHL than that would be a different story. Playing for Moose Jaw will be a big waste of time. |

Perhaps not, but he likely isn't ready for the NHL and being not ready for the NHL would do more damage to his development than being too good for the WHL.
Kadri seems like an "all about me" type of player. Something Rielly doesn't suffer from.
Wherever he plays, he is better off playing all the games in the most important situations. |

Facepalm. Just send him back to Junior, now, Nonis, so I don't have to read this crap for the next 6 weeks. |

Of course this all depends on how he shows in the pre-season and 9 game NHL stint. If management feels he is not ready than of course send him down. If he can earn a spot and prove that he is a better option on D right now compared to JML than he should stay. And IMO I think he will prove to be a better option than JML. |

Agreed. Ideally he could play for the Marlies but since that isn't possible Jr is the next best option available. Leaf fans will be glad management was patient. It will pay off in the long run. Big picture !! |

Start the video at the 4:10 mark and you will see that management is in the same mindset.
If you are too lazy to open the link then let me summarize. Nonis says if Rielly can earn a spot to play regular minutes even as the 7th defenseman then they will keep him. |
