If?

He's got 5.3 right now and can go over by 10%. If the bring in franson then one of liles or someone eles goes down saving900k.

I think 3.3 can fit into 5.2.

depends on what Kadri signs for.

there is no point in a team putting in an OS unless it for stupid stuff like RoR..team will just match.
- senstroll

Exactly. If some team was absolutely in love with Franson they'd have to table a 4 or 5 year deal worth about 4.5 / season for it to make sense.

Kadri might be a biger risk to an offer sheet - like Kessel was. I could see some team (Calgary?) falling in love and throwing a stupid (RoR) contract at him.

He looks like a cross between Phil Kessel and Brian Burke.....just needs to loosen the tie a little.

Franson at 3.3 leaves enough for kadri at 2.9 (by sending someone to the Marlies). If they are able to move liles by eating half his salary kadri can go to 3.7. Essentially there is enough to split 7mil between the 2 without having to get creative.

Philly and Jersey have been doing tricks on the cap ceiling for years... but now the Leafs have to and it becomes a (frank)ing Houdini magical act for some of the people around here...

A buddy of mine in Victoria BC sends me emails all the time about the Leafs and Canucks. Thats where this "sketchy" Kessel news came from. He's relentless. He sent me one last year - a very detailed and offical report saying Paul Henderson was trying to recruit Reimer to become a minister and quit hockey mid season. That one ended with a quote from Paul saying, " James...you could continue your hockey career playing for the Flying Fathers if you'd like".

None of the other 29 teams in the league would want a D for 1.9 million? Are you sure about that?

not at all! i think the Leafs should sign Kadri, dump Franson. i think his value is as high as it will get and they don't really need him.

You mean a guy that isn't the same player since he got concussed and on the hook for 3 more seasons?

No.

Look at the comparable players at 1.9mil. I'm not saying a team would trade for him, but at that price I think he brings a lot more than guys at that price even though he is damaged.

i didn't say it was dire. just saying it's not as cut and dry or as simple a situation as you think it is. going into camp with 2 unsigned RFAs is quite unique. difference of opinion.

You don't have to try and convince me... the fact you guys want to dump him and his ridiculous contract is proof enough that even you don't believe what you just said. And I'm willing to bet that Nonis has been trying to trade him for months now.

I Like your-- at least I think it was, idea of signing him to a one year and moving him at the deadline for even more value.

I do believe what I said. I just don't think there is a place for him on the team. Some other teams out there? I do think there could be a fit.

Maybe Nonis has been trying to trade him for months but has been asking for too much?

You don't know, I don't know.

He's small, not physical, not overly good in his own end, damaged and his offensive production is on a massive decline.

He is what the habs had in Tomas Kaberle. And he was bought out.

Franson is worth much more to the Leafs at this point than a 2nd round draft pick or a nameless prospect.

I'm impressed at your time management.... how you can be a doctor and find enough time to post on hockeybuzz is just astounding...

You don't know what Liles is or isn't, no one really does until after this season. If he has a bad season then fine he's done otherwise he's a wil card just like the oft injured ruskie on the habs, remember him?
