no.. he really hasnt

he's proven himself to be inconsistent defensively with some flashes of offense

he hasnt proven jack all

- Dozzer

The problem is that there way too many examples of RFA players being signed to longer term big $$ contracts solely based on potential. The signings where players get what they have "earned" based on what they have "proven" seem rare.

For a laugh..... Posted in another thread regarding if rielly played last night:

No, they held him out. Did not want him to go against Ottawa (nothing to prove was the comment).

franson has shown flashes but not consistency. he still isnt great defensively (getting better but not great yet)

still not the most mobile skater.. has a great release to his shot and thats how he generates most of his production.

a good release is not worth a couple additional million. i'm with the leafs on this one.

the consistent dmen are few and far between, and they make a lot more than $4 million.

so what is the story with matt rupert? I know the Leafs drafted Ryan two years ago, but Matt remains undrafted. I realize that they are both similar players, and on the small side of things, and would be long shots to ever make the team, but you can't deny they have chemistry together.

i think we tend to overuse the term "inconsistent" as fans.

For 4 milly, I feel you should be pretty damn consistent.

but IMO, only the best players in the league are truly consistent, going out there and getting the job done on most of their shifts.

Really doesn't follow the definition of consistent. I understand what you mean however.

I just think that 4 mill is a lot to pay a 3-4 d man. If he is that guy. The teams today toss around great money to some, that leave you scratching your head, and will not pay others that you want to get paid..

right. both second-pairing guys, both pretty one-dimensional. but Franson is heading into his prime while Ference is hitting an age where he's declining.

That has nothing to so with my example of a consistent dman who makes less than 4

Hell. I need to be paid!!

Whatever is left with the salary cap, give Kadri 45% and give Franson 55%, each with a two year deal. They should be able to get their big raise, in a year or so.

I was saying they didn't deserved to get paid. Just not 4 or 5 million dollars per year. I find it arrogant for him to ask when he has not even played a full season in the NHL..

so leading the team in D scoring proves nothing? Phaneuf is inconsistent defensively. a lot of veteran players are.
- scotch_tape

and he is also overpaid

trade them before overpaying.. in the end.. you're far better off.

I think Kadri should use his time off to learn to put the bong down and maybe learn the art of the "push up"..

oh i dont care if guys smoke weed.. not one bit. so long as they produce.

kadri will have lots of time to think about things if he doesnt smarten up and take whats being offered.

colborne is dying for a chance.. kadri would be smart not to give it to him.

That's kind of where I am on this. We have seen glimpses (maybe more from Franson) of what we think these guys are becoming. It would be prudent to do short term deals for both of them. This would also give the players an opportunity to prove themselves before becoming FAs and have them do so at a time when there is more money to be had around the league.

Management has the hammer and the players would be idiots if they sit out for any period of time.
