I liked Frattin. He will be good on LA, if he can stay healthy. |

You guys think that Franson is capable of becoming a top pairing defenseman? He seems to have almost the same game as Phaneuf, not as big a hitter, but better in other areas. In other words, you think he's capable of taking Phaneuf's spot if the Leafs end up trading him at the deadline. |

I think he has a great shot and even a better release...not sure about overall foot speed..he does get caught flat footed the odd time..but I guess who doesn't!!!!
I like his game, I wish Wilson had have used him more maybe we would have signed him to a longer contract last year and we wouldn't be in this position. |

I've been going through stats a lot prepping for hockey pool drafts and I was surprised to see Franson got a decent number of hits last year. Can there be a point where Franson is more valuable than Phaneuf? Sure. There is a big age gap too. I'd rather keep both of them. |

It has to be a tough adjustment when getting traded from a legit cup contender/one of the best teams in the league to a team that will have a serious battle to just make the playoffs this year.. - Fruitcakenipple
This is very true. Being part of that amazing winning streak and scoring the Cup winning goal...on a team that good possibly be a dynasty...it'd be tough to get traded anywhere. I think it's more of a function of that than of Bolland being unhappy specifically to be in Toronto...however if the season goes well for Bolland and the team there's no reason he's automatically gone. |

True, I like Phaneuf, I'd rather keep both, but looking at the contracts we need to sign next year, it may be best to trade him for some good value back. I believe he'll net us more in a trade than if we were to trade Franson. Next year, Rielly is most likely going to be fulltime on the team, with Rielly, Gardiner, Franson, Gunnarsson, Liles, Fraser, Percy, Ranger, and Brennan.....Phaneuf seems expendable as our younger guys improve. 7 million dollars is too rich for the Leafs to pay Phaneuf, meanwhile we need to resign Kessel, and maybe Kadri and Franson if they sign 1 year deals. |

It'll come down to cap obviously.
With Kessel, Dion, Reimer and Kulemin all UFAs, it's hard to imagine Bolland being a priority, especially when Colborne's getting to the point where he may be ready to assume a checking-line centre role. |

Well everyone here all downs the idea of this, but if you don't give guys like franson or gardiner a chance to be a top pairing defender, then you will never know if they can be or not. |

Yeah it's all about the cap number
I've read some analyses that project it going up to 80 pretty quickly, others that don't see a huge jump over two or three years, although definitely an increase. I'm pretty sure the outdoor games will make a poope ton of cash and the game will continue reap huge profits....lol the money from Leaf fans buying Winter Classic jerseys and other swag alone will bump up the cap a few mil. You can personally help increase the Leafs' cap space by buying lots of poop this year
Looking at the cap seems like the Leafs will be looking to trade some players at some point this season, good news is they will have some reasonably valuable things to trade...ideally the Leafs have a strong season and recoup some picks at the same time...like if Bernier is an all-star and they trade Reimer or whatever
Leafs assets could be better but I've (frank)ing seen them be a poop ton a lot worse than this in a big way |

Frattin is one of those guys who will forever leave you wondering what could have been had he not blown his knee out during the AHL playoffs.
Too bad. He had 20+ goal upside, I think. |
