No one was making those comparisons and you know it. Leaf fans love him, but no one's been saying either of those things. - djamon
I know numerous Leafs fans who were. Last summer they were saying he could be one of the top 5-10 D-men of all time. As I said, those feelings have been slightly tempered, but they all still think he'll be a perennial Norris candidate, it not a perennial winner. Ridiculous expectations for a kid. |

Yeah I agree with you. I was floored when we passed on him. Once I got back up off the floor I started looking into Poirier and it made me feel somewhat better. - whipper334
I was in the same type of place when Vancouver passed on him at 9.
A little easier to take when the pick is Horvat though. |

I have serious reservations about Jensen if he can't light a fire under his own ass before main camp. There are no top 9 spots open for a skilled winger. He has to take a job from someone else. Not bringing a better effort at all ends of the ice is going to see him on an early flight to Utica. - KB3Point0
We didn't see the same thing. I thought other than Bo he was the best on the ice by far. |

Jensen was the most effective forward that game.
Nobody else generated as many chances. Carried the play quite well when he had the puck, and made f few nice dishes. I did see two "lazy" turnovers, though, so it wasn't all good.
He also looked good the couple times he was on the PK.
Horvat's chances were "prettier", and he definitely still had a great game.
Still thought Jensen was more effective in the offensive zone. |

I think this is accurate. |

I didn't say he was. I didn't watch the game. Someone else commented that they'd like to see what he could do once Tortorella lights a fire under his ass. I just said that I'm concerned if he still needs someone to light a fire under his ass. He has an opportunity right not to steal a job in the NHL. He should be lighting a fire under his own ass.
I've heard mixed reviews of his play yesterday. Most say excellent in the offensive zone and generally pretty lackluster in the defensive zone. He'll need to show a strong effort in the defensive zone because the only wing slots available on the team are likely bottom 6 ones, probably 4th line (unless he blows them away with his offense). |

Exactly I think he has great vision and that has often been seen as a lack of urgency or intensity. |

Glad to hear it. I've heard mixed reviews on his defensive effort yesterday. He can't wait for Torts to light his fire, er... light a fire under his ass, er... make him play better... He has to ensure he puts in 100% effort at all times. There's a center spot open for a rookie. There is no winger spot open. He'll have to steal someone's job to get it. |

I had him as first star ahead of Horvat because of his positioning and his goals. An offensive player like him was pretty darn good in the defensive zone turning the puck back up ice to generate chance after chance. He was solid at both ends. Could he improve yes but to me he stood out more than any other player in the 2nd and 3rd. His line did play well in the 1st but was over shadowed by the BO hunter duo. |

Yah, it's unfair. I think the Flames get most of the ribbing for a few reasons.
1- he's from Calgary
2- the Calgary media made a bit of a stink about it on draft day
3- they are a rival
4- a lot of fans were upset he wasn't selected.
In all honestly, I think there will be 15-18 teams wondering why they didn't take him in about 5 years. - IanEsplen
Doubtful. Horvat is and always will be far better than Shinkaruk. Shinkaruk will be Patrick O Sullivan all over again. |

This makes me laugh.
A few months back nearly every hockey prospect rankings had Shinkaruk ahead of Horvat.
Now, without really playing a game, Horvat is by far the better player...hmmmm. |

As far as I'm concerned the Canucks drafted 2 very good prospects in the 1st round of a very deep draft.

thoughts on these?
The look on the face says it all.
This has got to be KLowe's doing.
"Kevin, go pick us out some new uniforms."
"Sure thing Bob."
"F+?k Kevin! what the hell are these?"
"Well with every fill up at Petro Can they give you a free set of jerseys."
"(shakes head) Why do I always hire Oilers guys." |

Captain Serious looks seriously unimpressed.
The jerseys look bad but at least we didn't get an 6th grade girl to bedazzle stars on the shoulder. The expression on Toews face is still better then Kessel and Stastney glamour shots.
At the end of the day I don't care if if the jerseys look like they belong on in the ice dance competition instead of ice hockey as long as Canada brings home the gold.

hahaha those comments are actually pretty funny. I don't cruise those boards though, too hardcore for me. I just like coming on here, having a few laughs and maybe have the odd hockey conversation.
Just cause a bunch of butt hurt Flames fans are sad because they didn't pick the hometown kid that was "ranked" really doesn't mean that's who they should have picked though. He fell faster than a sack of hammers and seems like a bit of a Richard.
Have em!

The fact that he fell could be as minor as teams having a specific player that they value more.
You have no basis for your claim that he's a Richard—again, if it's the crosscheck, name one player who hasn't delivered a similar check.
There aren't any.
I bet you were moaning just like most of those Flames fans when Feaster didn't draft Hunter.
Now that he's a Canuck, he's a Richard... |
