You don't know what you are talking about. Period. The steel industry didn't die, it moved.
I want to sell all of you guys stuff. It'll be too easy to make money. - Buffalo--Sabres
Even if the Steel Industry didn't move, the city would still be struggling mightily. The majority of steel production is done overseas. It's not really an economic boom anywhere in the US. It provides decent jobs from some, but not enough, not like it used to. The difference between Buffalo and many of the other cities where the steel industry flourished was that it had other areas of business that it excelled in. Buffalo did not. The real problem with the city is that it does not have a Fortune 500 company here. M&T Bank is in the 500s somewhere but that's it.
HarborCenter is a step in the right direction, nothing more. It's not going to single-handedly revive the Buffalo economy, nor is it going to be a center-piece. An ice-rink just doesn't have that kind of economic clout, no matter how many bells and whistles it contains.
I have been very vocal about the Sabres' shortcomings over the past years, but this jersey thing is way overblown because of how bad the team is. This isn't anywhere near the worst 3rd jersey that's been come up with in the NHL, and probably isn't the worst jersey that the team itself has even come up with. Like the 40th Anniversary jersey (which looked like something I wore to bed when I was 5 years old), it's most likely temporary. Finally, people making the accusations that Pegula is being a hypocrite from his opening press conference are way off base. From what I remember, all he said was that he wouldn't spare expense. If there was something out there that he felt would help the team, he'd write the check. He never said anything about not taking advantage of opportunities for new revenue. If he did, he'd have to be considered a very stupid individual. |

Are there really people on here questioning Pegula's intentions with this new 3rd jersey, saying it's a money grab, or am I misunderstanding? |

It would seem that there are.
People took his "gas well" comment and translated it as: "I'm going to run the team as if it existed in a 1970s price index". |

Agree 100%. If someone invests over half a billion dollars in an area shouldn't he want to get some sort of return? He is a business man he didn't become a billionaire by dumb luck, he knows what he is doing. Maybe not when it comes to hockey decisions but when it comes to business decisions he knows what he is doing.
To those saying its a money grab, so what if it is. He wants a return of his investment. It's called smart business. |

Anyone who thinks that he's in this for the money are mistaken, misled or misinformed.
Terry has done/is doing more for this sh!t-ass city and this hockey franchise than any of his predecessors COMBINED.
He is really only guilty of one thing: His misjudgement on how difficult building a championship sports team was going to be.

Agreed. I see a lot of new construction coming up regardless of all the red tape an investor has to go through. If only it was a little easier to get something built. The city would come around even quicker. We also need the help of the residents of the city to clean up their own act . Too many want everything for free or destroy what is given to them. |

ur on fire, im sure we all have had many many stories of outside factors halting projects.
I know a guy who wanted to buid on the old piers land (owned by nfta) and would have cost more to get the land and allow it to be built on than the actual construction project itself. |

I heard something this morning about Mini Mario (Coumo) coming to Buffalo to announce the state is taking over the NFTA property along the skyway. Is this true or was I still sleeping ? |

Not sure how they (he) can "take" it over as NFTA is a private company. Give the monetary obligations it would take to buy it is plauseable

I want to be careful here though. Pegula definitely seems to be the most well-intentioned owner in team history. However, "doing it wrong" is doing it wrong, no matter how badly you want to get it right. |

What does any of this have to do with the fact that the Sabres suck and have no direction at all? The awful jersey to me is the cherry on top of a heap of blunders.
What is apparent is Sabres fans are emotional thinkers and can convince themselves of anything. Its such a joke. |

last part is interesting, will they pay or will it be gifted. Mario is way to much of a snake for me to like him getting involved.
edit: p.s. I will say his gun rant is one of my favorite humorous non sports rants |

I would say all Pegula has proven is that he's much less impulsive than we'd like him to be. There are cases when that is a good thing. |

The statement summarized today's announcement as follows:
•
ECHDC will take title of the Outer Harbor parcel remaining after the NFTA sells Terminals A and B. ECHDC will take title to the port terminals if for any reason the expected sale of the port terminals does not occur.
•
OPRHP will operate Gallagher Beach and the Small Boat Harbor as a new state park.
•
State Parks will take control of the Small Boat Harbor by May 2015. Until then, NFTA staff will operate under supervision of OPRHP.
•
OPRHP will operate Gallagher Beach, including exploring possibilities for creating a public swimming beach.
•
ECHDC will pay $1 for the property.
•
An advisory group will be established to review future development on the entire property.
•
New York State will be responsible for all capital improvement costs and operations and maintenance of the property.

Actually, except for Golisano, All of the owners had a pretty good family feel to them. I think the Knoxes were a class act, they loved hockey and made sure the Sabres stayed here long after they were gone. I knew in insider with the Sabres during the Rigas era and he said they were a pretty amazing family and treated EVERYONE in the organization very well....not just the players....too bad they were criminals.
We all pretty much hate Golisano....but he did keep our team in Buffalo. And that's about it.
Pegula is trying to rebuild what the Knoxes did for this town. But he's trying to repair almost 2 decades of damage done. I don't like where this team is right now, and I don't currently live in Buffalo, but I'm pretty damn thankful for what they guy is trying to do for both the team and the town...
