I'm pretty sure the insurance on a given contract starts at the start date of said contract. So the 4 year would kick in as official in september of that year.

Wow Kadri wants a similar contract to Tavares!!! 5 years, $5.5 mill per. Well I guess Kadri aint gonna be playing anytime soon. I mean Kadri had a decent 48 game season but he needs to prove he can do it over 82 games. The smart thing for him to do is sign a 1 or 2 year short team deal. Than he can cash in on a bigger raise.

Hes not, but Tavares is now discounted, if he was to re-up today he'd be getting franchise bucks 7.5 or more for sure. Signing Kadri at 5 today has a risk, but 5 mil is a 65 point guy now, which he should be at least. 5 million in 3 years could easily be a steal for Kadri, unless he just tanks.
