players are free to request number changes whenever they want.
- scotch_tape

No they aren't, those numbers were assigned to those players. Only "special" players get to pick their numbers, unless signed through free agency or acquired in a trade.

...oh and by the way, the sabres third jerseys may officially be the ugliest in the league.

just awful.

the Devils need to go back to the Xmas colour scheme again.
Capitals need to go fully old school as well. their hybrid jersey is hideous.

Gallagher was assigned a #, he then changed it after a few months. (73 to 11)

cause the acquired Ryder.
but players are free to request a number change. most of them just don't give a poop though. why would they? unless you have a truly hideous number like 63 or 72 or some poop.

How can the number on your back, affect your play, are you serious.
- bixll

Never said it affected their play, just said it may make people, primarily the media think of them as more of a "substitute" player. It's a known fact that the Leafs handout those numbers to AHL players....Kadri should have gotten a choice of number just as Schenn did, and hopefully Rielly does. Bozak, understandable that he started out with a scrub jersey, but the guy should now be able to pick his chosen number which I believe is 21. On a side note, I'd love to buy a Kadri jersey, but have the feeling 43 is not this guys number and he will change it eventually, making that jersey a waste, it's just stupid of the Leafs, gives the appearance that they're call ups.

I mean, it makes the islanders fisherman jerseys look half decent....I mean, they are anahiem circa mighty ducks bad.....
just an absolute farce.

And it makes him look like a real player, part of the team, not just an AHL call up.

Because when you play a sport from a young age, you usually have a number that you use.....I don't understand why you wouldn't think that's a big deal to a player. For example, my number is 28, I'd be pissed if I had to wear number 48 after 20 years of wearing 28......get it? Players are not free to pick numbers, atleast on the Maple Leafs, it's as if they have to prove themselves first before they can actually request a number change. I think it's safe to say Bozak and Kadri have proven themselves.

I think good play will make him fit in to the big club, not a number, JMO.

Bold 1 - Because its not
Bold 2 - No they havn't.

I really don't see why any player would care what number they have. Its a number. You play for the crest on the front.

I'm speaking more about the appearance it gives off. Those numbers are designated for AHL call ups (guys that are not permanent players), not 1st round picks. Why is Kadri wearing 43? Is he Luca Caputi or something? I don't understand why Kadri isn't allowed to wear 91, Gardiner 19, Bozak 21.....just a dumb policy in my opinion.

I Respect your opinion.
However, I feel like if the players don't care, then we shouldn't. And it seems rather apparent they don't.
