well...second leading scorer, top scoring dman... the team is better with them. i don't think that can be argued.
i understand what Nonis is doing. but there are also some subtle differences in the 2 situations. one of the things that gave Bergevin leverage is that the Habs were at the outset of a re-build/re-tooling/whatever the hell it is. they had just come off a 28th-place finish and there were zero expectations going into the season except for them to be beyond awful. Nonis made some significant moves this summer to improve the team immediately. i believe there is more pressure on him to get these guys on the ice than there was on Bergevin, who when he was hired basically said "this is going to be painful for a couple of years".

- scotch_tape

fair enough.. but look at it this way

the leafs come out of the gate and do well.. what leverage do they have left?

i kinda figure thats what is going to happen.. but its a dangerous game.. if they skip out on training camp then when they do get back on the ice they will be a step behind.

and its going tio be one of two things:

1: they get the contract they want, it comes with huge expectations and then they fail to produce because they are behind conditioning wise.

2: they miss out on salary because they sat out and only got what they were offered in the first place

they should just take the deals.. but their camp should insist they are only for a year

I assume, as I read the same quote, that he figured he meant Kadri was getting 4.5 x 5 years or something. I dunno.

I thought he meant "Subban would have signed that".

Which is wishful thinking at best.

I think that certain players should change or be able to change their jersey numbers so they're taken more serious. You may not believe that it matters much, but if you've ever been on a team and they just hand you a number because you're not an established player it sucks. And when you're wearing those designated numbers, people mostly think of you as a spare player, not that good, etc. For the Leafs, they throw all the 40's-50's at their young guys, Bozak 42, Kadri 43, Fraser (45), Komarov 47, Gardiner 51, Holzer 55....give the guys a choice of different numbers so it doesn't look like a team of scrubs. It's like the equivalent of a wide receiver wearing like 60 or something. Change Bozak's number for starters, he shouldn't be wearing a plug number when he's supposed to be our #1 centerman. #12 or #21. Same goes for Kadri. Maybe 91 like he wore in junior.
