Yes...but...
Kadri 7th overall, Subban 43rd overall...so...Kadri $ > Subban $

subban is so cocky/confident he believed he was gonna be paid like a champ next contract because he would give the habs management no choice....and that is exactly what he is going to do.
Rather than a 4.5milliom, 4-5 year deal, he will get his 3mill, 2 year deal plus a 6 year 7.5 million deal......
Kadri should show he believes in himself as much as he talks. - Barx

here's the beauty of the situation
the only leverage these guys have is what they bring to the team. other than that.. they have nothing, nadda, zippo. they are negotiating from a point of weakness.
all the leafs have to do is shrug their shoulders and say.. ok.. we'll go forward without ya.. enjoy sitting or europe.
end of negotiations. - Dozzer
so you're saying the Leafs don't need either of these guys? why not just trade their rights to the highest bidder then? trade 'em for second round picks or something. |

They don't need them. all they need are 23 bodies, they'll continue making money.
The players need the team, or they don't make money.
The team wants the players, because they make them better. |

Im willing to bet theyre offering closer to the 3.75 range. - Colin Dambrauskas
I was referring to Subban.
Instead of going with a Henrique type of deal, he signed a bridge deal, and will now have a winfall.
apparently, that is funny..... |

I just think that if the Leafs play hard ball now, the likelihood of him signing an extension later is going to be greatly diminished. Especially if he does live up to the potential. - vermie22
thats why I am sure he isnt being offered anything that takes him out of RFA status |

That's only because Howard wouldn't allow it.
Or because he's the most prolific poster in the history of hockeybuzz.
Who knows? |

I assume, as I read the same quote, that he figured he meant Kadri was getting 4.5 x 5 years or something. I dunno. |

well...second leading scorer, top scoring dman... the team is better with them. i don't think that can be argued.
i understand what Nonis is doing. but there are also some subtle differences in the 2 situations. one of the things that gave Bergevin leverage is that the Habs were at the outset of a re-build/re-tooling/whatever the hell it is. they had just come off a 28th-place finish and there were zero expectations going into the season except for them to be beyond awful. Nonis made some significant moves this summer to improve the team immediately. i believe there is more pressure on him to get these guys on the ice than there was on Bergevin, who when he was hired basically said "this is going to be painful for a couple of years". |
