A lot of things can be worked on in practice. I'm very much in favor of Laughton making the team if he looks ready.

I'm not saying he won't, I am simply saying it's an option and still a good one. I'd rather he work on his offense in actual games against other teams in juniors than just in practice.

I think we both know each others opinions on this. I believe that playing a 4th line role, and also practicing with an NHL team all year, will be far more beneficial to his development, then a 4th Junior Season will be.

Both sides have good arguments, I'm not for or against either both can help him in my opinion.

He also would like a shot to make the Canadian World Junior team.

I think if you asked him if he'd rather play for the Canadian World Junior Team or play for the Flyers this year, I think he'd choose the Flyers.
I'm not going to be upset if he's sent back to Juniors. But in my opinion, the only reason he should be sent back, is if he doesn't look ready for the NHL.

I don't wanna come out and call Bill Captain Obvious in a disreapectful manner but for the most part, we know everything written in today's blog. It's smaller details we are unaware of. Will Gagne get signed or will Laughton come on board full time? I believe the first unit Power Play will remain the same to start out with Giroux, Timonen, Voracek, Simmonds and Hartnell but over time in this long 82 game schedule, everyone is gonna wanna see what Lecavalier and Streit can do. Especially so Streit for me because he does have a heavy cap hit and strictly offensive. We are beating around the bush a bit. Assuming everyone survives preseason, Meszaros is a gone. Laughton, McGinn and Gagne are the biggest question marks. I also feel Laviolette should go with the obvious line combination but he always throws in that annoying curve ball coming out of camp.

Besides he did say this in July

"I'm just trying to work on my offensive game all the time," said Laughton, a hardworking, cerebral player. "I think my defense kind of takes care of itself, so I just have to develop those little skills, and this camp helps out, too. I feel pretty confident right now with my game."

Hard to do that if they have him on the 4th line should he make the roster.

- ob18

If he's playing with Talbot on the 4th line it won't be so bad. At least he's not like Coots last year, being expected to produce offense while playing on a line with Rosehill and Hall

I think Laughton has a roster spot to lose going into this camp. Management was pleased with his performance last training camp and his nine games, but ultimately decided it would be beneficial for him go back to juniors, especially considering it was a shortened season.

Laughton will end up on this team if they keep Mez and don't re-sign Gagne. Personally, I'm up in the air. I was pleased how he looked last year, but I don't want to burn a year off of ELC for him to play pity minutes.

I wouldn't call them "pity" minutes. He'll be expected to play some PK time, and he'd be the logical person to move up to the 3rd line if/when an injury occurs.

I think it's a little too soon for PK.

If he makes the team, he will get PK time. Not right off the bat, but throughout the season, he will get some PK time. But probably not top unit, barring injury.

Hearing Nikolai Zherdev's contract has been cancelled by KHL club after DUI charges. Further, that KHL is considering a 'Zherdev rule' that would allow contracts to be considered voided at league/team's discretion following DUI convictions/other alcohol-related issues. Zherdev is a sad tale. The kid had immense talent. Absurd hands. Forget hockey. Hope the kid salvages his life, finds happiness and worth.

I think we have to go with the best possible team to win the Cup. I think Gagne is the better player, in return gives us the best possible chance to win. With this said, I'm not against Laughton winning a roster spot but as I've said all along, there isn't much to take serious about last season. The players didn't really have a training camp last season and because of the shorten season, Laughton appeared in five games, not the normal nine. He was also sent back to junior because he didn't play lights out great. I suspect he'll be better in his second season with the big club but right now I believe Gagne is the better player and the better option for our third line.

Does anyone play OTP/Club in NHL13? What a great way to learn each position if you are unable to physically able to do it. I may even take OTP too serious because I hate when people cannot play their position properly. A lot of arguments with complete strangers in the online xbox world.

So what do you do if Laughton comes in to camp and outplays Gagne throughout camp and the preseason? There isn't a top-6 role for Gagne, and he's not a 4th line player. But if you want the "best possible team" and Laughton is the best fit for the 3rd line, what do you do?

He goes back to Gotham City, dresses up in a bat suit, and vows to take it back from the criminals trying to destroy the city, culminating in a fight inside of a train car in which you die since one of the rail supports has been blown apart by a missile launched from an all-terrain tank driven by a police officer?
