I think that hammer you speak of was used to hit Edwards over the head...
- whipper334

I should clarify that. They needed 3 hammers, one for Edwards, one for KK, and one for Feaster.

Hope you had a great weekend Colin! I think if you look at where the Flames ranked on their prospects, near the bottom & look today where Pronman has them at 10th, I would say the rebuild did start about 2 years ago. Edwards wouldn't let him blow up the core until just last year, so I would think the prospect stable will climb even further up the charts. This year is a no brainer from expectations, the big question & test will be to see if Feaster can make that transition back to winning & how long that will take.
- Kevin R

Really, we're going to debate the rebuild start date again. Why don't we just say that Feaster moved his eye to the future 2 years ago. He started putting a bigger premium on picks and prospects at that time lkmely knowing that 2012-13 would be the last year of the old core.

Any good business judges and makes plans for current fiscal year as well as 2, 3, 5 and 10 year plans. To me, the rebuild stsrted whsn it was out with the old, in with the new; the transition point if you will.

Feaster did a good job in preparation for the rebuild.

Come on people the flames are a basement team for this year and the next and probably the year after also but the good thing is they will have Nylander or Reinhart,McDavid and perhaps Benson
1st line Benson-McDavid-Nylander
Porier-Monahan-Klimchuk
Gaudreau-Backlund-Baritsci(can't spell his name)
Glencross-?-?

in a league where parity is the rule, i would not count out a veteran team of professionals, flamers could compete for playoff spot and it would not surprise if they get in (only to bow out in first round)

Flames rebuild starts this year, cause the big pieces were moved at the last TDL to try get picks. Just my opinion, but if you started the year off trying to make the playoffs, you weren't rebuilding.

Not that I disagee with you, but some teams find ways to come back really quickly from what is expected to be a long rebuild.

While I think the Oil will finish ahead of the Flames in the standings, given the lack of the Oils bottom 6, plethora of 3-7 D men and a goalie who still needs to prove he's a true #1, I wouldn't put more than $20 on it.

If the Oil don't finish above the Flames Katz will have Lowe's head.

As well as his nut sack and fingers that have as many or more SC rings than any other active GM that prove he knows a little something about winning.

Very! I do think they will be substantially better. I think they have added some much needed pieces. Time will tell I guess.

The Oil might squeak into 8th (with all the stars aligned) but all I'm expecting is that they be in the race until maybe 3 games are left in the season.

Who are you guys expecting to be racing against to get the #1 overall? FLA?

Meh, I think Katz has shown that all he cars about is the money, which he'll make plenty of this year again.

Him and the old Oilers boyz club go waaay back.

And maybe Buffalo. Plus there will be a team that falls off that no one expected.

Yeah you're probably right. I can't wait to see the Tortarella circus.

That being said Torts may get all he can out of this team the first year before he loses the room.

Any team with 400 man-games lost to injury will be right there with you guys

That's what I figure triggered the Oilers rebuild... I think they either set a record or came really close to it for man-games lost to injury in 2009-10

I'm really hoping one of the Sedins calls him a douchebag on camera about half-way through the season

I heard the Collage kids are not at the prospect camp because 1. they would have to miss school 2. pay their own way.

They could play if they did not have classes to attend and afford to fly out and pay for their hotel and meals and such ... which for collage kids is not really an option due to the missing of classes not to even get into the financial aspects of it.

I can't wait to see Torts with the Vancouver faithful. This will be classic... They just need to bring in Bryzgalov for the greatest comedy routine since the Three Stooges...
I think the trouble the Oil will have is leap frogging the "weaker" conference teams to make 8th. As much as I hate to say it, I see the Oil with the same fate the Flames have had, finishing 9th, 3 pts out and getting f-all in the off season...

i agree...the day iggy was traded was when for me the wheels of change were started. feaster has done a great job bringing in some youth, albeit some of which were questionable. but like bergy for the habs, its always nice to see a guy take risks. feaster i think has taken some good risks. that said, what can a guy do when you have kk and edwards shadowing you on every move. it s like parents following their daughter on her first date. the whole thing with them i find puzzling, feaster has more championships under his belt as does weisbrod (edwards has an 89 ring?) than those 2 goons and he still seems to have a leash. i guess they know how to win it seems. oh well, still on the right path!

ya but how much do the oil need prospects in the offseason? they cant replicate the flames because the oil, have youth, some sort of direction, and the sky's the limit with their talent. the flames the last few years were on the complete opposite path. old, miss managed, terribly coached, and full of bandaids. a 9th place finsih for the oil is a step in the right direction imo.

also really, peeps, to call the nucks a comedy troop i think is disrespecting their talent. the only comedy that is their team is their GM. he should be the butt of all jokes. Torts is a fantastic coach, and luongo has gone thru this ordeal with class. full marks to him. id love to see many of their players play for the flames and really the flames dont have any top 5 roster players that can touch the nucks top 5. to talk trash seems silly because the flmaes more than likely will be the butt of all jokes this season. they may get the record for fewest wins in a season...
