I'm not worried about Hjalmarsson leaving if the Blackhawks act quickly.

If they let it pass till the end of the season and Hammer's agent starts feeling the love from...... a desperate Flyer team, a needy Red Wing team..... A San Jose Sharks team that wants to finish what it started..... then Stan & Co will be in for some sticker shock. But if they get him wrapped up soon they can keep him around5.5.-6.0 and phase out Oduya with a rookie ( Clendenning, Olsen, Johns...).

I would expect $5 million. I don't think this signing or Crawford's will impact Toews and Kane, they're not going anywhere.

I would expect $5 million. I don't think this signing or Crawford's will impact Toews and Kane, they're not going anywhere.

That's where I'd put it at the low end. Who knows, he could have gotten as high as $6 million per season?

This lowers the bar for defense-first defenseman on the market.

Now everyone can concentrate their rage on getting Shaw Kane and Toews signed before it is too late...until the CAP hit on Hammer is revealed and they pick a side on whether it is too much or not.

Yeah so they will do their best to keep the major pieces and continue to discard the higher salaried middle-end forwards as attrition moves.

and we see more youngsters locked in at lower cap numbers....which is precisely the only way you manage the Cap after you are a strong competitive team.

If Hjammer is signed for anywhere near $5 mill, that would make things tougher for the Blues to sign Pietrangelo for under $6 mill.

I could not be more relieved. I still don't like the Crawford deal, but keeping them both is great. Now we just have to see the dollars and trust that the front office has total understanding of the cap moving forward and is going to have ample room to resign Toews and Kane in 2015.

I would love to see hammer get 5.5 per just so it screws STL and they have to give him 7

I think Oduya has one more season with us at most. Which is a shame because he's been a real good soldier for us and meshed really well with Hjalmarsson.

After suffering through the ponderousness of the Pully era, it sure is fun to watch a front office the operates in a professional and organized fashion. This off-season has had a planned-out feel to it in a big way. Canuck fans must be so envious....
