Possibly the reason they have not seen a lot of action as well.

There aren't going to be many goalies in the league who can play 3-4 games in half a season and look sharp on their rebound control. Especially when the wealth of their experience comes from the AHL. It's like complaining that a pitchers control looks 'off' when he's done nothing for a couple of months.

I don't agree for the most part that is. Sure a goaltenders overall game should improve with experience but most of these guys are either steady stay at home tenders in junior or they're the flop around rebound givers (DP, Poulin). For the most part you can say what kind of style they play while they're maturing. It doesn't mean he can't improve on it but I think he is of the DP variety.

Its like a ball player being blessed with soft hands as an infielder.

The tenders play everyday. you have it, or you constantly work on it.

'working on it' only goes but so far if it's only done at quarter speed. The speculation on his overall ability means little until he's actually had an opportunity to prove or disprove said ability. No one has seen enough of Poulin at the NHL level to start debating on whether he's got it or not.

I don't think there's any legit way to make a comparative between DP and Poulin at this point. Trying to guess how good his rebound control is based on 10 starts through the last two seasons is way too speculative for me to draw any conclusions or even say it's' due to his positioning'. I've coached enough goalies to know that their positioning can be perfect yet if they're not acclimated to the speed of the game, they're still going to cough up rebounds. Poulin has a career NHL save percentage of .912....I'm not going to say that due to this stat, he's a career .912 in the making. The info is incomplete. Let's actually watch him at least see a quarter of a seasons worth work before stating the guy has rebound control issues, since that's not entirely true.

Think of it from a catchers standpoint. If you spend all your time catching double A ball and then suddenly step up to catch for a guy who throws wild balls at 97mph, you're going to look foolish. It's even worse from a goalies standpoint.

As I've said, you won't find a goalie in hockey that doesn't look shakey with rebound control if they only start 4 games in over half a season.
