They just re-signed smith to a huge extension, they'd look like the biggest bumholes ever if they dealt him 2 months later - Sabresfan-365
I dont think that would be too shady...Smith signs the extention pre ownership...ownership comes in and wants Miller more than they want Smith...bosses get what they want and thats just business. |

I wish the Devils had the offensive prospects to make a trade for Boedkers rights as we cant't offer sheet anyone with no first this year and Both us and the Yotes are rich in D prospects and weak in the offensive side. We just don't make good trade partners but I would love a for Lou to swing a deal |

How's it not a risk? They could both wind up losing these guys next year. I doubt the sabres would trade Miller for Stastny just so they could trade him again at the deadline.
He probably doesn't carry that much value either. He's been on the rumour mill for like 3 years now and the Avalanche still haven't found a trade they like for him.
I'd rather we trade him for a roster player who is either a) under 26 or b) has more than one year remaining on his contract. - Sabresfan-365
Trading for Statsny is far less risky than keeping Miller on the team without an extension in place. The value at the deadline for forwards is much higher than the value for a goalie. Also there isn't a guarantee there will be a market for a goalie. There is always a market for a top 6 forward.
Miller isn't going to get that roster player under 26 who has years left on a contract that's worth trading for. Statsny is our best bet at this point. Sadly Darcy waited to long and there is no market for a goalie anymore.
Statsny at the deadline gets you a late first round pick especially for a team that needs depth up the middle. Hell Guasted got us a first. Miller wouldn't get us a first at the deadline. Do the deal if it's true |
