Also Stastny for Miller only if an extension is agreed upon (I'm guessing Colorado would want the same).

- Sabresfan-365

Eh I don't see the need for the extension to be there. Both are UFA's. Its really not a risk for either team to make this trade. Statsny is moveable at the deadline see my previous posts LOL

I agree with this here. It's way easier to move forwards for big returns at the deadline than goalies. And, I actually want the Sabres to resign Stastny, whereas I'm not so sure with Miller.

I am just saying that you are only allowed so many contracts like 50 or something (and I am not sure how many you guys have now) but when you trade one assest for multiple assests you run out of places to put these assests.:
- blizzzard

This does make sense and it is a concern they are thinking about. AGM Kevin Devine mentioned that with so many picks (11) this year, they were looking to draft college and European players in addition to CHL players so that too many contracts weren't bunched up. You now have 4 years to sign European players.

At some point you can have too many prospects to be able to sign or give an opportunity to. An example of this is Florida trading center Corban Knight to Calgary.

Yeah I find life is better when I don't pay attention to hockey rumors that come from "sources"

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 51m Sabres source says most recent Miller trade rumors are bogus.

And in two days Rimer gets shot down on Hockeybuzz!

so I guess he is perfect for the site!

How's it not a risk? They could both wind up losing these guys next year. I doubt the sabres would trade Miller for Stastny just so they could trade him again at the deadline.

He probably doesn't carry that much value either. He's been on the rumour mill for like 3 years now and the Avalanche still haven't found a trade they like for him.

I'd rather we trade him for a roster player who is either a) under 26 or b) has more than one year remaining on his contract.

That's the last time Rimer should use Garth as a source.

constantly being rumoured to be on the trading block doesnt mean he doesnt have any value...bobby ryan was rumoured to be traded for what 2 years as well?

Just saying just bc his name keeps on popping up in rumours doesnt mean he is untradable or that the Avs are even trying to trade him.

Dater himself casued a rumour speculation when he used the HockeyIsinderr as a source and then wrote an article that Stastny to the leafs could be done soon. Sometimes its just bored media people cauases a storm for attention...if a HockeyInsiderr and Garth can be used as sources, well where are credible rumours anymore....rumoured to be on the trading block means nothing till i see it on TSN

Not saying he has no value, just that the Avalanche probably haven't been offered anything worth taking, same as Miller. Even so, it still doesn't make sense for either team. The Avs defense is probably just as bad as the sabres, so I doubt Miller makes them that much better.

Stastny to the sabres doesn't make much sense either since all it accomplishes is forcing Grigorenko back to the fourth line. It's unlikely that his numbers will be any better than what Hodgson can put up (though probably better defensively). Maybe if the team still had Pominville and was trying to make the playoffs it'd make sense but not anymore.

Nah, they've already planned that one out. Drag it out till november pray that Calgary submits an offer sheet involving a 1st round pick and take it. 2 top 10 picks would be nice...

Yeah I didnt think it made too much sense either, it would make each team considerably stronger in one area that pershaps didnt need need to added to but still doesnt address eachother biggest flaws in the current roster.

The Avs need quality shutdown D men....You guys need some slicker puck moving Dmen. Id rather hold on to stastny and see where we are by february...if we are in playoff contention make the push with him in the roster and hope for the best....if not trade him or O'Reilly to a deseperate cup contender who are looking to bolster their second line.

I would be looking at the Yotes for Smith and Boedker and you guys likely need to add something. You guys get a younger goalie (I think anyways lol ) and a speedy young winger just finding his game and the Yotes get a legit #1 who can only benefit from the defensive system ( I also think Phoenix is a place Miller would resign) and they get any addition Piece likely a decent pick or a F prospect with NHL upside

I'd say two way forwards would be at the top of that list but sure puck moving Dmen would help as well

I wish we did that...more to the fact that O'Reilly would have to go on waivers first...Flames lose a 1st, 2nd, and a 3rd round pick, and then lose him to a waiver position team...that would have been the perfect situation to happen

They just re-signed smith to a huge extension, they'd look like the biggest bumholes ever if they dealt him 2 months later

Just how you say you guys need an upgrade on D...I forgot about Erhoff when I wrote that, but with Myers struggling, I didnt think you had anyone who anchors your PP.

Well the hope is that Myers can get back on track or Ristolainen can fill that role in a couple of years. Plus there's always the 2014 draft. There's a decent chance that we'll have multiple 1st rounders this year as well.
