Unlike the Bryz suggestion, I like this idea. Mueller doesn't hurt at all on a 1 yr contract. If he gets hurt then it allows us to bding someone up and ease them (say Knight or Reinhart) into the big league. If he works out though mving him at the deadline might be the best idea. Theres a good chance he suffers another concussion again at some point. So maximizing on an asset durjng a rebuild is important. |

As per my discussion the other day...tanking and drafting high is no guaranteed success story. Take a look at the NYI...drafted 10 times in the top5 over the past 20 drafts...how they doin? - Colin Dambrauskas
Dont forget Milbury was running the team and made a lot of horrible trades! |

back on topic this is a good idea
and anyone that thinks losing Iggy and Kipper will hurt the flames didnt watch them last year
Jaybo is another story |

I kind of wanted the flames to take a flyer on him going into the off-season. I am not sure now?
They brought in Galiardi and traded Tanguay for Jones. I would have rather had Mueller than Galiardi and maybe Jones. Either that or had another vet sent out to have Mueller on the team.
Now they have a lot of one way contracts. I am not sure there is room for Horak who i believe deserves a spot. Adding in Mueller might take Knight off the team also. |

It would give the young kids a chance to play together and give those young centers a chance to fight for the 1st call up position. It also gives us assets that could help acquire pieces we will actually need going forward. |

It's risky business. Guys that wait until the end of August to sign a deal with a lotto team more than likely play pretty damn desperate during the year. Not sure the guarantee of good play is going to follow suit the year after. - Lahey
So your argument is not to sign him for fear he might play well?
Just doesn't make sense! Maybe he fits in well here! |

Jaques Cloutier gave the reference for Galiardi and Jones. Mueller was on that Avs team around the same time. The decision to sign Mueller has been looked at, obviously, by Flames brass, and likely came down to that same reference.. or Florida Panthers team doctors.
Mueller has been in a losing fight with injuries but he looked great at the start of the year last year with Kovalev. |

Nope. If you would re-read you'd realize I was talking about why I wouldn't re-sign him to a multi-year deal extension during the year. Have nothing against signing him to a one year deal now, but no way I'm giving him an extension unless it's for 1 year and at a decent price. There will be other Mueller's next year that are desperate, no reason to get locked into a multi-year deal with a guy that has proved he isn't worth it for more than one year at a time. |

DONT GIVE ME THIS BS
I understand what you are trying to say, but why even worry about this right now. Bring him in, if he fits well, maybe he will play well this year, and for years to come. That's the last thing the Flames should be worried about. |

I'm not worried, it came up so I gave my thoughts on it. Not much else to talk about.
I mean I could start ranting about how Eberle, Schultz and RNH aren't on the TSN's Olympic team, but I'll save that for laughs. |

The real outrage here is that Taylor Chorney wasnt even invited to Olympic orientation camp. He could have went to Canadian OR American. |

Can you invite him to camp, evaluate him based on what he does in some per-season games and if all looks good sign him? Just not sure on how pro tryouts work? Can someone inform this dude? |

I don't think Horak needs anymore time in the ahl. My main concernabout adding another veteran right now is not so much this season, it's next season. I don't think there are going to be many youngsters on the team as is this season, i see a big influx next year. Adding another vet now means another youngster being on the team next year. I would like to see it more balanced. I don't want to see for 2014/2015 season Monahan, Knight , Horak , Reinhart and Guadreau all start at the same time as full time NHL players. |

Horak is still only 21 I believe. Another year in the A won't hurt and will likely help.
My expectation is that we are worse next year than this because of the influx of youth. And by a good portion of them playing together and hopefully dominating in the A, they will be that much more ready for the NHL, as a group.
I said it before, any vets on short term deals that give us a chance of using them to acquire draft picks or younger prospects at the deadline should definitly be looked at. Mueller has a chance of proving himself and that could bring back a 1st if he plays to his abilities and stays relatively healthy.
Also, the kids still need to compete for NHL roster spots and not have them handed to them like the Oilers did.[/img] |
