So, with September just two days away, and camp right around the corner, I wonder when the Stepan negotiations will wrap themselves up. I am betting on two days before camp. |

it's definitely getting close to crunch time
whatever happens, I am just not believing that all three of Brian Boyle, Dominic Moore and Taylor Pyatt will be in the opening night lineup |

Boyle's game is better on the wing. Taylor Pyatt brings almost nothing Jimbo. I know you want him cause he's had success with AV. I just think he's slow and he's not physical for his 6'5 frame. |

I don't think I necessarily want Pyatt at all, I just don't think he has any trade value and I think Boyle actually does. And, then you add on the fact that Pyatt is familiar with Vigneault, it just still seems to me Boyle will be gone sooner than later.
But I will shed no tears if Pyatt is given the boot at all |

yea boyle is definitely the one that is gonna get shipped if one of them are shipped. like you said, pyatt/powe/asham have zero value and we couldn't get rid of them if we paid another team to take them from us but boyle could actually get us something decent in return.
is it so crazy to think we could get a good prospect like clutterbuck got or a 2nd round pick? |

we have done a free yahoo league the past couple of years with many of the group here that I have been the commish of.
personally I am not interested in a money fantasy hockey league, but maybe some of the other guys are - jimbro83
yea i was in that last year. if you do it again, shoot me an invite on my new yahoo email (lost the PW/security answers for the one i used last year).
only reason i'd wanna throw like $10 is so that it gives all of us incentive to actually follow it and keep up with it. |

I don't know.
There have been a lot of good names out there who haven't gotten a job yet, like Brendan Morrow, who could be had for free.
I don't know what we could get for Boyle, but Sather's statement last week I definitely believe was an attempt to raise Boyle's trade value |

Personally I just don't like money in fantasy hockey because I don't ever want to be in a real position of possibly being happy if Sidney Crosby scored on Henrik Lundqvist
to me, hockey is all about the NY Rangers |

I can see a team like the Hawks being interested in Boyle. I definetely think he has some trade value, he's relatively young, on a decent contract with no long term committment, he blocks shots, kills penalties, and is a good playoff performer. Like you, I don't know what they can get for him, but I don't think a second rounder or a decent prospect is out of the question. |

Clutterbuck is a better player than Boyle(which I'm sure you're aware?)but if you have circumstances like we did with Nino I guess you never know? Definitely IMO a lopsided deal(of course dependent how Nino turns out?) but I'm happy to have Clutterbuck. Wanted him for a long time. All you need is one disgruntled Draft pick... If the kids is a top 5 and has the potential that Nino has/had I'd feel it'd take a bit more than Boyle?
Edit; I guess it's all relative as to whether Clutterbuck is better than Boyle just my opinion. I've always been a fan of his. Like players that take the body. To me Boyle seems to have lost his edge? |

Honestly, I haven't really watched enough of Clutterbuck to have an opinion on the Boyle/Clutterbuck issue. I do, however, know what type of player is, which is a flawed player who doesn't take advantage of his size, but who also does alot of things well, and tends to play better in big moments. Players like Boyle, who kills penalties, block shots, can work the boards, will always have some value. I can't really see him commanding a Nino like return, so that may, in and of itself, answer the Clutterbuck versus Boyle debate. |

part of Clutterbuck's trade appeal too is that he had a contract that the Isles would love, 2.75 million a year for 4 years.
Brian Boyle is a UFA after this coming season, so there is definitely a risk to acquiring him besides the fact that he is a wildy inconsistent often disappointing player |

Not true. We extended him. We signed him to that contract. |

boyle is better defensively and it's pretty even offensively. i think clutterbuck uses his body a lot better and is a lot more physical but in terms of scoring, passing, playing defense, killing penalties, skating, etc., i think boyle is the better overall player.
i think you guys giving up nino for clutterbuck was just your GM cracking too early mixed with a prospect that's wanted out all season long. if you stuck to your guns, maybe clutterbuck could've been had for a 2nd rounder mid way through the season. |

oh did you, my bad, he was a RFA though, not a UFA like Boyle, right? |
