Love the Idea!
Bryz will be Back in the NHL this year, and prove he can still play well.
Nashville would be a better fit than Calgary though, I agree. |

Oilers, Edmonton
Islanders, New York
Two teams who had some strong assets but have yet to develop a winning atmosphere as a result of years of losing. Edmonton has yet to establish themselves as the strong team which they feel they have the potential to be.
But one could argue that both have taken serious strides of late, but fact of the matter is that neither have made the playoffs in years despite drafting high. (06 EDM, 07 NYI) - Colin Dambrauskas
I figured they would be the two teams you would mention.
Regarding the Islanders, let's be honest. Their problems have as much to do with mismanagement and a horrible stadium as it does a culture of losing.
The Oilers are a good example. But, they've violated both of the stipulations I put forth - losing for TOO many years and just handing jobs to guys with no competition/accountability. |

Islanders made the playoffs last year... - Peterg
...I knew that too, thats where I was going with my "made strides in improvement arguemnt" comment.
Thanks
But to add...the Islanders have drafted in the top 5, 10 times in 20 draft years. Thats a lot. |

On an unrelated note, check out the write up on the Flames prospect depth http://www.hockeyprospect...rticle.php?articleid=1559 Overall ranking of 10th best in the league... Reading something good about the Flames made me almost giddy. |

I'm not big on goaltender reclamation projects, especially when they carved out their rep under Dave Tippett's system. |

Nashville will for sure make a significant goalie move soon. If Rinne is out still by training camp, they aparently have Carter Hutton listed on their website as a backup, apparently he was the hawks AHL goalie.
You ahve to think they will have to do something soon |

For the pure comedy this would bring.....sign him up!
Maybe he plays good and we can unload him at the deadline?

Great article, I always enjoy ones on goaltending. I would agree that if the Flames could get Ilya for the right price then why not. However, the one concern I have on plausibility dates back to when he was with Phx. When he was on the team and there was drama they might go to Winnipeg, his response was that he would go to Russia again before he ever would think about going to Winnipeg. Point being, if he is going to be cold and so to say, " in the middle of nowhere," he rather be cold with his family in the middle of nowhere with less taxes, criticism and more money. That would be the only trivial problem I could see for why Bryz wouldn't want to come to Calgary, despite it being a place where he could get great playing time. However, perhaps he would have some great time out there to think about the universe. Thanks again for the perspective. |

You can still win games in a sh*tty stadium. The Islanders management (and ownership) are a huge factor (how long did Dipietro sign for?).
As for the Oilers, too many kids with huge upside but really no one to guide them unless you count all of the ex-Oilers in management and coaching positions throughout their organization. |

Maybe in 2 or 3 years Bryz would be good for this team, but the guys confidence is absolutely shattered from Philly. Probably in his best interest to play in the KHL for a season or two and win some games. Not something I expect Calgary to do a lot of this season (not trolling). |
