He's over in the KHL. I say we pay off Zherdev to take him out.

Sounds like a plan but Zherdev didn't do what the Flyers wanted when they paid him for a full season...

I feel bad for your friends, Bill.

I don't share your feelings for Mr Miller, but your interactions with him have obviously built a friendship and it's never a good day when a friend gets bad news.

The question is, do we really want him back? I love Timmo, and he is the embodiment of the term "warrior", but with his age, wouldn't it be more useful to clear his cap hit in order to resign players and go after big free agents? Maybe if we got him on a super cheap cap hit it'd be good, but otherwise, idk.

Teams leaguewide are locking up most of their better/ younger/healthier D men in long-term contracts before they can hit the UFA market.

According to Canadian media it's because he's part of an international conspiracy centered in Ottawa. During the offseason, Giroux doubles as an international super-spy who takes headquarters in Kiev during the summer. He's a sort of Canadian James Bond, if you will. His most known alias is "Claude Giroux", but he is known to the international spy community as Jason Bourne. This summer, a certain blogger on a certain hockey-rumor website began stirring trouble in Ottawa. Naturally, Eugene Melnyk couldn't let said blogger begin riots in the streets of Ottawa, which the situation was obviously and quickly escalating to. Through his contacts outside of hockey, Melnyk put up a contract for said blogger's head. Jason Bourne grabbed the contract, and quickly hatched a plan to put said blogger to bed. After a failed attempt to hack said blogger through totally inconspicuous virus messages, Bourne knew he'd have to get up close and personal, quickly getting on the next flight to Ottawa. Unfortunately for him, the blogger had picked up on him, and sent armed goons onto Bourne's plane. Although he came away alive through a daring escape that included jumping out of the plane, a deflected bullet did hit Bourne, once in the hand, severing four tendons.

I did in 2002 and 2006. Couldn't root for a team with Sidney on it though. So U.S. in 2010.

Listen, I'm just as big as a Flyers fan as the next guy. Im a hockey fan first, Flyers fan 2nd (a very very very close 2nd). But I couldn't root for the national team that has the most Flyers. I was born in Philadelphia, raised in Philadelphia, and currently reside in Philadelphia. I've literally never lived anywhere but here. Even so, I couldn't root for Canada (a bitter rival at that) just because they have more Flyers. I'm an American. I root for USA because that's where I was born.

I don't care that Giroux did attend, but I don't understand why not. If the camp had included on ice activities I would understand. Unless they didn't want him to suffer another golfing related injury.

They played ball hockey, which involved wearing hockey gloves and using sticks. He's unable to do both of them.

I root for Team USA when they are involved.

When they aren't involved, I'll root for "Team with the most Flyers".

I do something similar with the NFL. I always root for the Eagles first, but then, if the Eagles aren't involved (and I'm not gambling on the game), I'll root for the team with the most players from my alma mater (PSU).

At this point, I want an Aaron Sorkin screed delivered by Jeff Daniels on why this "thing" of Giroux missing a ball hockey session is so stupid. I feel like that's the only way some people will see how this isn't even worthy of being called a tempest in a teapot.

Rooting for the Eagles is just wrong. The problem with the Eagles is that the fans care about winning more than the organization. If the Eagles are able to get into the playoffs and get that sweet, sweet playoff money for the owners, then they're happy. Go root for a real team like the Steelers, Packers, Bears, or, dare I say, Cowboys.
