Maybe golf shouldn't be allowed for hockey players

Andrew Weiss ‏@WeissFC

US Ivan Hlinka D Aaron Haydon is out 4-6 weeks after breaking his ankle at a team golf outing. Haydon was named to American Prospects Game

"outing". i'd be shocked if the injury occurred while he was actually playing golf. much like i suspect this apparent injury to giroux came during the normal course of play, let alone actually happened on a golf course at all. i'm not one for conspiracy theories, but i don't buy this golf injury nonsense.

Last I checked, under Andy Reid, the Eagles had their most successful run of success in the Super Bowl Era, and outside of the late 1940's, the most success they ever had.

Yes, Reid, Banner and Lurie were annoying and were definitely willing to squeeze every nickel, but the did get to 5 straight NFC Championship games and a Super Bowl.

I don't think that money was more important than winning to them, just that the willingness to divert from their system was more to blame and their estimation of their own brilliance blinded them that they need to change.

Full disclosure, I stopped watching the Eagles because of Andy Reid and his inability or unwillingness to adapt. But I do recognize that the guy had a pretty good run in Philly, all things considered.

Listen, I'm just as big as a Flyers fan as the next guy. Im a hockey fan first, Flyers fan 2nd (a very very very close 2nd). But I couldn't root for the national team that has the most Flyers. I was born in Philadelphia, raised in Philadelphia, and currently reside in Philadelphia. I've literally never lived anywhere but here. Even so, I couldn't root for Canada (a bitter rival at that) just because they have more Flyers. I'm an American. I root for USA because that's where I was born.

I enjoy watching Olympic hockey, but if the Flyers are playing the Rangers at the same time the US is playing the Czech Republic, I'm watching the Flyers.

The Olympics simply do not inspire anywhere near the level of passion I have for the Flyers. It's not anti-US, it's an inability to give a crap for an all star team that I don't follow for four years.

good coach. fatal flaws. and his labored press conference breathing was like nails on a chalk board.

i think it's a bit of a cultural thing. europeans and south americans seem much nationalistic with sports to me. no evidence. just an observation.

I really got angry when they declared that they were a model organization. They were definitely a gold standard for a very good, above-average team. I was pretty much done with them by that point, but that was where I just stopped. I do like their center (Kelce?) and Celek (if he's gonna play this year), but that's about it.

Possible. I also find it funny that people couldn't bring themselves to root for a team with the whiny Sidney Crosby, yet were full of support for a team that had Ryan Miller as it's starting goalie...because he cries like Tammy Faye (frank)ing Bakker

I'm happy that they're trying a new system and I am interested to see how Kelly does now that he's not in the NCAA.

it was just time for a change. it would be different if reid had won a bowl or two, and somehow made himself endearing to the fans. neither one of those things happpened. time to go.

They played a lot of games with the numbers to make it look like they were spending more, but the reality is that year after year, they had tons of room under the Cap.

Exactly. What Reid was doing was no longer working and he had no answers. I'll be interested to see how he adapts in Kansas City.

I'm gonna say KC does better than Philadelphia this year. That's not me just hating the Eagles, I really think KC will be 6-10 and the Eagles will be lucky to get to 5-11.

But I agree, it was time for a change, and IF Kelly's systems works, they should be a playoff team in a few years.

They have a huge hole at possibly the most important position in all of sports. Quarterback.

You could say this same thing about most professional sports teams in North America and probably the world.

Gross.

I actually stopped during the Ray Rhodes era, right before he was fired. The Eagles fans were what turned me off. Now that I don't work with the same chuckleheads I did then and the reasons you pointed out above are no longer an issue, I might give them a chance this season. We'll see.
