I don't disagree on the idea of keeping him around if the return offers aren't that good, but that's why Snow hopefully pays the phone bill. You never know who may be calling. One man's trash.....
To round back to the original topic, which I missed earlier, I would NOT trade him unless we were receiving a substantial return for him. This team should be back in the playoffs or at least competing for it at the deadline. Still, the bigger picture remains, do you sign Moulson to a long term deal? I say 'no'. I'd offer him no more than 3 years at maybe $4-$4.5. I just think he'll end up finding SOMEONE who pays more. If nothing else to generate fanfare by bringing in a 3-4 time 30 goal scorer.

I don't think his agent would let him sign that. It would be great if he would agree to it out of team loyalty and friends in the locker room, but it's not going to happen. - JimmyP
I agree...which is why I think the Isles have to start considering other options with him. At least test the waters. If I'm his agent, I'm thinking more like 5years $27 million.

Do you think we would've missed the playoffs last year if we traded Moulson at the deadline? - Cptmjl
I think an argument could be made that if we didn't have Moulson all year, the isles may not have accumulated enough points to make the playoffs. As I said earlier, his 44 points in 47 games count as much as anyone else's. Some of those points may have been the difference between the Isles getting a point or two on a given night as opposed to no points at all. |

Yes. The odds are slim that Isles will win the Cup this year. It's doubtful that the Isles' offer will compete with some of the offers Moulson will receive as an UFA. To me keeping him under those circumstances isn't worth it. Get whatever you can.
If the Isles playoff run comes down to Moulson then they are in trouble anyway. I'm not sure of the trade deadline this year, but the Isles will play 75% of their games (61 games) before March 1st. If Moulson is a 30 goal scorer that would average out to be about 8 goals in the last 25% (21 games). If 8 goals over 21 games will squeak them into the 8th seed then they are going to get bounced in the first round.
I would prefer they extend his contract and keep him. I'm not sure that's going to happen. As has been said on this thread, this is Moulson's chance at a big contract. I wouldn't blame him for milking it for all he can. - JimmyP
So, if someone offers the Isles a fourth round pick or later for Moulson, they should make the deal because at least its something? So, trade away your first line left wing, your second leading scorer on the team over the past four years, your first line PP wing, and severely reduce the team's offense and diminish the team's playoff chances for a mid to late round pick because he might not re-sign here next summer? Again, we'll agree to disagree. You may not see it this way, but there actually is a benefit to making the playoffs, even if you're not a shoe-in to win the Cup. |

Bailey has a good 20 game run and now he is a 1st line player, but moulson produced for 3 years on the first line and now after a 25 game bad run he is no good. Makes sense - Vukota
Exactly. I hope Bailey finally becomes someone who can be counted on to score, but his track record isn't close to what Moulson's is. |

I would agree a fourth round pick isn't enough. And yes, there is a benefit to any playoff experience, especially for a young team.
This is where I'm coming from - I don't see any way the Isles sign Moulson for the 2014/15 season. So I would like to get something for him. I hope I'm wrong and they can extend him for a decent price before the trade deadline. A lot of it depends on Moulson's plays this season. I think he will do well since this is his chance at a big payoff.
As far as severely reducing the team's offense and diminish the team's playoff chances - Cptmjl and Vukota beat that to death. I think they covered it all.
So I can agree that we can agree to disagree. |

I think that would be impossible to confirm or deny. Afterall, Boyes had 35 points during that stretch. You could also make the argument that if we had a legitimate talent in that LW position we may have gone to the second round. That was Moulson seemingly wiffing on multiple empty nets during that series

Bailey isn't that type of player. He'd be better filling the PAP role of feeder/playmaker. I'd much rather have a big tough finisher in Moulson's role. We don't have that guy in house yet, so Moulson is our best option. That said, I'm not interested in keeping Moulson in that role for multiple years at this point. I think (hope) we can do better
