Seems the assistant GM has been doing the pickings in the draft the past 2 years . - cabin
That limits DR's usefulness to deadline trades.
Is Dudley available? |

Not sure but I think they are grooming Kevin Devine for the job
He is the assistant as of now. |

I wouldn't mind if they promoted Devine. |

It certainly seems that way. I figure if they're willing to fire a guy that everyone had respect for, then hopefully Darcy will be fired as well. If the teams really bad this year, they'll use his firing as a shield aka the fall guy - Sabresfan-365
If that is true that is so sad. Instead of making rational, common sense decisions in the best interest of everyone, just making cheesy marketing moves and ploys to keep the fans interested. Fire a guy every year so they can keep saying, "look were, different, things will be different", when they wont. That's the trap the Bills fell into years ago. |

I personally like the ceiling on these draft picks we've selected recently, and I'm sure plenty of people can agree. I think that getting Locke in the seventh round was a steal. How about you? - EnrothWeTrust
The recent picks are nice in theory, but the reality is they are just prospects. Don't really know what to make of em so far. A lot of people make Grigorenko sound like god on skates. No doubt he's a tremendous talent, but nobody falls from 3 to 12 in the rankings just because he was a little lethargic. For as much talent he has, he's got plenty of holes in his game too. I hope he and Girgs work out but it might be a while before we see results.
Ristolainen was a nice add but I'm one of the few who didn't really like the Zadorov pick. I mean he could turn out to be great but using a 1st round pick on a guy because of his toughness (they even admitted it on the blue and gold episode) is a little weak. Time will tell whether it was worth it but there were a lot of highly skilled players on the board we could have gotten.
I think my favourite pick in last years draft is Compher or Locke (I think he fell because of his age but I'm not 100% true) |

It really is sad but that's what it is looking like at this point. A lot of ownership groups have been doing that in recent years to aid with public perception. |

I guess it's officially Tuel Time:

HA, I just sold those tickets. I wish the kid the best but lets face it, that game is forgone conclusion. I think I'm going to plan an apple picking outing with the family that Sunday. |

Would spending to the cap on the Ville Leino's of the world make us better? Since Pegula came here all we've done is try to win the headline war at the trade deadline and offseason. And we've done a fine job but it means nothing on the ice. - Buffalo--Sabres
the only thing i would like to see is a miller and/or vanek trade.. with miller i feel that as each day passes his value goes down (unless someone gets an injury at the goalie position).. vanek might get you somthign at the deadline but it is goign to be picks and prospects.. |

I think that's a result of too many teams in the leagues + skyrocketing player salaries. |

I don't think a Miller or Vanek trade will be productive. At least I know for sure if one or both happens they wont be a better team the next day. |

no they will not be.. but it goes to the forethought portion.. do you see either one of them re-signing? i don't, and you cant just let them walk out the same door that briere and drury walked out.. at least send them out the one that campbell used |

lol
I think the idea of "letting them walk for nothing" is way overrated. I think the Sabres should address the issue of why your best players don't want to resign with you, especially when money isn't the issue. |

Were the Sabres any better of a team by trading Campbell than they would have been if they let him walk? Hindsight is always 20/20, but there are cases where services rendered are still worth more than any return you get in a trade. |

Although I do agree that letting them walk is overrated and isn't an absolutely terrible thing, you used a bad example.
The Campbell trade brought us Tyler Ennis through the acquired draft pick which is much better than nothing. |

Maybe invite a few vets in for tryouts to make Flynn, Porter, Tropp et al actually earn a spot by beating out actual NHLers for a job.
Try and do better than Sulzer and Tallinder for veteran defenseman.
Trade Stafford and Miller for whatever the market bears. Addition by subtraction with regard to Stafford and get on with seeing what we have in Enroth and Hackett in what figures to be a lost season.

in the case of miller it is because every is saying he sucks and isn't worth his contract in this city and he wants to win (which isn't going to happen in buffalo any time soon)... for vanek it is just because he wants to win and doesn't want to be on a crappy team.. those are what i think are the biggest reasons, is there another reason, probably but i don't know what they are |

the market bears nothing for stafford.. in his case it is better to hold on to him and see if he shows up. if he does then trade him at the deadline |

Word is we could have had Burmistrov at the deadline. Maybe he stays in NA if he's in a new organization. Even if he doesn't we still win by having Stafford off the team and either saving or using the $4 million he's going to steal this year.
Besides, if he is going well this year - a big IF - Darcy won't trade him anyway. |

Agreed, Stafford should he show up to play this season could get us atleast a 2nd. Vanek will get us a first and a prospect maybe a little bit more.
I wouldnt mind seeing a guy like Morrow here. He is a true leader. Right now we are a team without any true leadership. Yes Ott is a leader but I think that may have been out of necessity. He is best fit for running around stirring up chaos not being the captain of this team. A good A but not a C |
