I honestly think the acquisition of Bernier/Bolland will pay dividends...the Clarkson signing will be nice, but for me those two guys is what makes the different for that team. Never cared for Reimer personally. - Colin Dambrauskas
I'm not huge on the advanced stats but I understand them for the most part. Toronto played with some of the highest percentages in the league last year. They will likely fall back to the norm. Also, I believe their 2 highest possession players were Grabo and MacAurthur. I like Bernier but Reimer was pretty good last year so I don't see much improvement but maybe Bernier just creates a better tandem over all. Bolland and Clarkson will be good 3rd line additions but I'm not sure they add enough over an 82 game schedule.
I hope they make it as I'm all Canadian teams for the PO as well; well, except for the 'Nucks |

There's no chance Clarkson plays third line at that money. He was brought in under the assumption that he would get more top six minutes. |

Most likely, yes. That doesn't change my opinion that I believe TOR will have a tough time cracking top 8. |

I think too many people read a certain article and took it a little too serious, if you ask me. While it held several good points about the team, it only focused on certain advanced stats and didnt consider the bigger picture. Wasnt a proper asssesment of any of the five teams it listed, in my opinion. |

I'm not sure what article you're speaking of in particular, I have read a few. This is more of a gut feeling with some knowledge gained of their season lat year. Like I said, I hope they prove me wrong. |

Oh for sure...they will certainly have some challenges ahead of them, but those who argue that a team will go from 5th to 10th or worse because of possession stats alone are being foolish imo. Theres a lot more to take into account when trying to predict where a team may end up based on systems, players, experience...and even then its damn hard. I think the Leafs will decrease in overall productivity, but not anywhere near what others are suggesting. |

The Flames an embarrassment? Based on what? I haven't read the article, it doesn't sound like I need to. Because we are rebuilding? Because we fought for the PO with our aging stars? Pfffft. What about the Oilers sleeping through the last 3 seasons to get 3x 1st overall. What about the Maple Leafs futility in the PO if they even get there.
Sounds ljme a beat writer trhjng to make a name in a sport they dont get. Not worth my time reading. |
