kids, at least he knows how to get hits. you never make a guy your captain when he's lucky to get in the lineup. you make the guy your captain who plays in the most critical game situations, who leads by example on and off the ice and who has the coaches ear.

the oil will make hall captain. he's their best player and will soon be top 5 in the league. he meets the criteria above plus he's young and a young coach like eakins can't rely on a veteran who will most likely tune him out. he'll get hall's ear and since it's hall's team, let the kid run with it.

I too play soccer, I actually like running so it works for me.
I can't stand to watch it though, sometimes I will put a game on and am quickly reminded of why I can't watch it. The diving is atrocious and embarrassing.
The team I play on isn't very good but we are the best post game drinkers in the city. I figure I run close to 7-10 k in a game.

Smyth wouldn't even be in my top 5 choices for the C. In my mind he gave up his chance to ever be captain when he left. I'd make Hall captain and have Eberle and Ference or possibly Smid as the assistants.

I have a couple of teams. We're pretty solid, but again, the post game beer drinking is a definite draw for said teams

I am all for slapping a C on Smyth as long as you slap 3 other letters after it. I agree that Smyth was Blue and Copper in the past but he has a real attitude. Throwing a fit when he was a healthy scratch last year. We need a captain that can be a role model and motivate. You don't see Smyth taking the hits or bridging the gap between our 22 year olds and our 30 year olds.

I am sorry, if what they say is true Gagner is the one with heart right now. He has played enough games to get the respect of the veterans yet he is young enough to relate to the young guys. He lives with 2 other players. I am not saying throw the C on him but give the guy an A. Smid must be doing something wrong to not have an A already but on paper he would look like a choice. I would say at this point you throw an A on Hemsky to motivate him after you just humiliated him. You need the guy to start the season as a top 6 player, maybe he will keep that spot. Then you give an A to Eberle because you need to acknowledge your point leader, plus it might take some of the pressure off him if he knows the team already believes in him. Then an A to Hall because he looks to be the future.

Proceed to rotate a C and two A's amongst those 4. Who says you need to have just 1 captain. Other teams have done it and it has worked well. Then when Hemsky is gone Schultz or Petry should be ready.
