compared with the fact that the Devils are paying Travis Zajac a ludicrous 5.75 million a year, the Henrique deal isn't so bad
- jimbro83

Different circumstances. Zajac is 28 years old, impending UFA, 3rd contract. Henrique is a baby, RFA, 2nd NHL contract coming off ELC. Thats where Stepan is also.

Sather already has said firmly that Stepan is getting a bridge deal. He even said, "He has to wait his turn for the money". I think it was a pretty frank comment by Slats, I don't think he'll change his stance after publicly saying that.

I agree with Jan that Stepan is worth 4.5-5M per season but Sather has all of the leverage. Stepan is not getting an offer sheet because of the circumstances. Stepan was not arbitration eligible. Stepan is coming off his ELC with good stats, but nothing that solidifies consistency. Stepan has also been a playoff bust considering his season stats.

Recent news today on USA camp also shows that Poile will be determining the 25 man USA roster around Jan 1st, and the biggest factor? How the players perform in Oct, Nov, Dec. Trust me when I say, Stepan will not endanger his chance to play for gold by missing training camp, being a step behind everyone, and worse yet, missing evaluation time when the season starts.

I can see Stepan finally agreeing to a 2 year bridge deal $3.5 - $4M. That would set him up to receive a long term deal at age 25 much like Zajac's deal (28) at $5.5M or higher for 8 years.

Honestly, I don't think Stepan is the one thats holding out. Going from making less than $1M to making nearly $4M, I think he would accept that type of short term deal. The real problem is the NHLPA, and his agent. Both of which are pressuring to get him to hold out for more for the sake of "average player salaries" and Agent commissions.

Agree with you and this is what I wrote Friday: "I had written in the past, I could see a short-term deal with Stepan getting more during the year, which would allow the Rangers to manage the cap and something the team did with Lundqvist before he signed his six-year deal. That way, both sides get what they want, albeit in different timeframes."Sign him to one-to-two year now, rip it up in January before the Olympics for an LT deal, cap issue solved.

Steve Zipay spoke to Derek Stepan at the Orientation Camp today, and to none of our surprise, Stepan said he expects to be in training camp when it opens. That same view was uttered by Ryan McDonagh, who added: "It's a unique situation for him but ultimately, he'll be a Ranger."

Just read that. Glad to see Stepan isn't pulling a "Duby". Kid seems definite that he'll be at camp. What I take out of that statement is, he's not looking for the ultimate payout. Seems he realizes the position that the team is in and kinda knows the position he is in at this point in his career. Doesn't seem like a hardline stance at all, just gonna wait til 11th hour and see what Sather's best offer can be. I dont think not signing right away always means confrontation. Stepan could just be giving the Rangers time to think about what their best offer can be.

Sounds good, def sounds like his relationship with Torts was bad at the end, if you read between the lines, especially for 2 guys who share a bond as Cup winners together.

I won't b!tch about it again, hated the move bringing Richie back, but he's here, he's a Ranger so I'm behind him.

Ryan Callahan said is shoulder is “progressing as it should, everything’s going great.” Still, he admitted there’s “definitely doubt” whether he’ll be able to play in the regular season opener in Phoenix on Oct. 3 at Phoenix.

“That’s definitely in question,” he said. “Like I said, I can’t tell you exactly when I’m going to be ready, but as it comes closer, we’ll know more. I’m definitely in jeopardy of missing the first part (of the season).”

Allan Muir of SI:

"Rick Nash: Always looked upon as a top-six forward for Canada in the past, Nash is lucky to have gotten a courtesy invite this time around. His name value is much higher than what he actually brings to the table these days"

Ok, but only 5 Team Canada invites scored more goals than Rick Nash did last season.

And, Rick Nash actually scored a playoff goal against the Bruins, something Sidney Crosby didn't do.

Jimbo. I've now adopted your way of thinking. The less Rangers that go to Russia the better. Let as many guys as possible get the rest.

there were at least 10 games last season where you could easily say Rick Nash was the most dominant player on the ice for either team.

He couldn't figure out how to beat the constant checking he faced in the playoffs, and was completely snakebit on his scoring chances as well.

But to say Rick Nash has diminished skills based upon last what he did last season is dumb and it kind of smells of anti-NY sentiment more than anything else

And when he is being shadowed he doesnt cower, he battles for the most part, unlike Gaborik. I watched from the stands that great Islander gm you posted the OT highlight from the other day, he was being checked good by Hamonic & there were a lot of away from the play skirmishes that I enjoyed watching those 2 go through.

Although he def let Lucic get to him in the playoffs.

Any other three-letter responses that anyone can think of here? What was the designer thinking? Absolutely horrid. What was ever wrong with the 96 World Cup jerseys? Or even last olympic games? I don't get this. I hope this is an April fools joke................damnit, it's August.
