Yeah . When I seen Weise and Sestito re-signed I knew Gillis had a case of Verbal Diarrhea.

Sestito and Weise are decent depth guys who are still young and could get better.

They were both worth re-signing.

Doesn't mean I want both on the NHL roster at the same time, though.

Schroeder does require waivers. But there is some uncertainty as to whether he'll be totally healthy to start the year, so he could possibly be sent down for a conditioning stint, or start the year on the Comets and be called up as an injury replacement, which would make him waiver exempt in both cases, if I'm not mistaken.

I could see a young guy win a 4th line spot from Weise or Sestito, depending on how well they play in camp, but you're right, it is unlikely.

My bet would be either on Archie or Blomstrand.

I could also see some players winning a spot with good play as an injury call up.

I might not understand the waiver rules exactly, but I think Schroeder is still exempt. I believe he was 18 when he signed his first pro contract, which would mean he is exempt until 5 years after (its only 4) or 160 games played (he has 31).

At any rate, is Archibald in -> Sestito out really that much of an upgrade to change the fortunes of the team? I guess every little bit helps, but we're talking about fringe players here. Until some of the potential impact players are ready to make an impact I don't see much changing.

If Gillis was also successful in picking up Torres and Clowe, like rumours suggest, I'd call that going "all in".
- Fosco

I agree, that would have addressing more than just a single need. I don't doubt either that they did try very hard to make those deals work, but when you go public that you are "all in", you better not sit on your wallet, because as the dealer I'm not likely to let you buy back in if you were holding out...

IMO we needed to 4 th liners with a combination of what they both bring. Weise checks and has speed but is not a good fighter . Sestito is a decent fighter but not a great skater or checker. That is where a Torres Ott or Clowe would have been a good signing. Of coures at 4x the cost.

This is going to be a nightmare. An entire season of media pushed Luongogate and a trollfest in here.

Pretty sure it's been 5 years since Schroeder signed, but his ELC slid until he played his first full pro season.

Capgeeks waiver calculator says he's not exempt.

Archibald or Blomstrand might not be enough to improve the team, but a healthy Kesler and Booth might, plus improved seasons from younger players, and players who had off years.

If Archie could pop in 8- 10 goals and fight then it is an upgrade . If he can't it is not.

Yup. Either way he still failed to address the team's needs. But I wouldn't be surprised if the season had ended differently if the Canucks could have landed Torres and Clowe...

Man, I wish we still had Torres...

Like I said, they're both still young.

And Weise put up considerably better AHL numbers at a younger age than Ott did. Sestito's aren't bad at a similar age either, and Sestito's size is difficult to come by in a player that can actually play.

AHL numbers don't always translate to the NHL, but it's still valuable for perspective.

Not saying Weise will ever be as good as any of these players, but he just turned 25, and Sestito is about to turn 26—Ott's first two seasons where you could even call him an effective NHLer were when he was 24 and 25, where he put up 22 points in 77 and 82 games respectively.

Weise and Sestito could both still turn out to be effective NHLers, and they were worth contracts.

I swear I live with a rocket scientist.

G/F makes a coffee and complains about the colour of the coffee being too light. I opened the lid to the Keurig coffee maker and she didn't put any coffee in it.

- VANTEL

My concern if there was no coffee in it why did it have any colour? Are you guys not cleaning up after yourselves.
