I agree with you and remember that year well. That was Edmonton's "Steve Smith Year". It was also Patrick Roy's rookie year. Lots could have happened between that Ranger series and the rest of the playoffs.

But what happened, happened.

I'm just not sure I'd rank them that much more highly than say, the last time John Vanbiesbrouck beat the Flyers in a playoff series when the Flyers entered the series as the Number 1 seed in the East (i.e.-- 1996).

I met the Beezer at a Flyers/Wings game in Detroit during Giroux's rookie season. I ran into him at his seat during second intermission. He allowed me to sit with him, take a picture and he asked more about me then I could him. Super nice guy.

I never really understood this hate towards Rex either. Why do we hate him? For being an awesome Flyer? For possibly being the reason Bill Barber was fired. Gee, his coaching career really sky rocketed after being here. Oops, Recchi's mistake. From what I could tell, Recchi, Leclair, Roenick, Desjardins, Primeau, Kapanen and Brashear were all pretty good friends who hungout off the ice too. I guess I'm not understand what makes Recchi so different from the rest outside of putting up the most points of all these players all time as a Flyer...

I'm not trying to change these minds as much as I am trying to understand the logic.

I'm more emotional in my recollection of the situation. He puts together a very good narrative. Hopefully if he's around, he can post it. He did so recently, but I can't Remember which thread it's on. As for me, it's all about Recchis character and not his playing ability or achievements.

I remember the day he was traded back here for Danius Zubras. I was jumping for joy. For me, as long as he wasn't a locker room cancer or distraction and produced while being a good teammate, nothing else matters. Why bother looking for reasons to dislike our players?

The only three guys I booed at the Alumni game were Recchi (for his complaining about the too many men penalty in Game 7), Roenick (for crying on national television), and Kaspertius (for being an bumhole).

The divingest diver who ever dove. Instrumental post Flyer in exacerbating the Crosby whiny diverness through teaching.

This is accurate.

The Wreckin' Ball could dive with the best of them. And as with Crosby, Recchi has such a good, low center of gravity, they are hard to knock off the puck most times, and yet, both could hit the ice on command when breathed upon too hard.

I also liked Recchi, though, and I do kinda recall him being thought of as a role model by guys like Gagne, JWill, and Langkow when those guys were the young bucks on the team. Or maybe I'm misremembering.

Went back and read those comments.

Recchi has always been known as a lockerroom lawyer. That's pretty well known and yeah, probably why some folks don't like him.

I liked his style of play and his talent.
