It is the same as Reportedly Gillis was not a fan of Torts and Aquillini is . Botch reported it weeks before and said don't be surprised if Torts is the new coach even that Gillis is not a fan of his style.
Our owner is reportedly very hands on . - VANTEL
If that's true it makes it very difficult to grade Gillis on his tenure when a fair number of his big decisions have reportedly been not of his own doing. We're getting into rumor territory again though as we will never have a firm report on any supposed decisions Aquillini has made (at least until the Gillis biography comes out).
If all decisions are his then I'd place him in the middle of the NHL GM pack. If the big decisions come down to the owners then it's impossible to know how much better or worse Gillis and the Canucks could have been over his time here. |

Riding Matt Damon's coat tails, all the way to the bank. - 1970vintage
Not a fan of Afleck (except for the duck commercial of course ) but I have to give credit where credit is due. As such, I would have to say it's the other way around - Afleck has written most of the movies he (and Damon) have been in (I did like Chasing Amy, by the way).
P.S. Argo had the most egregious use of historical latitude I've ever seen |

Potential wise I think he's the worst. This is the season I would much much rather gives every single player in the AHL a game to see if they can compete in the NHL. - manvanfan
Alberts was excellent as a 7/8 and fill in 6 D last season.
He made too much money for that role, but at $600k he's a great signing. |

LOL. You've clearly never seen a "historical" Hollywood movie before that one then. |

If the Aquillini's are that hands on then I feel it's quite easy to grade Gillis, weak, if he can't stand up to the owners get out, he might as well take player advice from his wife or dog. |

I guess I thought Argo was particularly bad, given the lack of acknowledgement of Canada's full participation in the rescue etc |

No, not what I said. I said that if he were to come back I felt it was justified to pay him a reasonable salary for his production and experience, which is in the $2m range. I bet if you compared him to other players making $2 m this season he comes out in the top half. I don't believe in paying people less than they are worth because they are not a good fit for your organization. So even at league minimum I wouldn't want Raymond back. I think he is a good hockey player, likely a good teammate and wish him well but it is time for some change.
I also don't think that any of the players mentioned are actually better than Raymond, otherwise they "would all have contracts by now" ( I realize you didn't list these players) - 1970vintage
I know Raymond is worth more than league min-$1m, but I still don't want him back on the team for any more than that.
And I do want the Canucks to sign all of their players for as little money per year as possible, because it gives them more flexibility when they need to add important pieces.
I'm certainly not going to feel sorry for any NHL player who is "making less than they are worth" for any reason—they're all still making more than they should. At least in the NHL.
And there are definitely a few UFA forwards left who are better than Raymond. |

It is not Rumour . Botch called the shot. It was one of his final broadcasts on the 1040 and it was at the time where fans were saying "OMG not Torts". He came out about two weeks before and said " Gillis is not a fan of Tort's style ,but Aquillini likes him and wants to make a big splash after last years disaster" . Rintoul said "There is no way Canucks hire Torts and cause a circus" Botch replied "All I am saying is don't be surprised if Torts is the new coach"
Then days after that everyone started jumping the Torts bandwagon and he was hired. Botch had the inside track and knew exactly what was happening. He also stated the Luongo long term deal is Aquillini's doing.
Love or Hate Botch he does have his finger on the beat of the team. |

Yeah exactly the media. I don't think the players will be bothered until some reporter brings it up constantly. That will get annoying fast for the players. - Yeti1181

So Ben Affleck will be the new Batman in the upcoming Superman v Batman movie. I have respect for Affleck as a director and sometimes as actor but does anyone else feel this just isn't a good fit at all? - AlexF
I agree. Can't be worse then VAL Kilmer though. (frank) it was like watching Kessel back check.
But I wish they would never do another Batman movie. The Dark Night Trilogy is amazing. Leave it alone, u can't make it better |
