2. Toews offense is very, very underrated. His game is so complete, that he always makes sure he is playing a 2-way game so that the other team

Okay, I think we've had just about enough of the Hawks fans homer takes. I don't think there's a right or wrong answer here folks. Building a team around either of these guys is intriguing regardless of which.

My one big hang up though in this discussion, is finding a pure goal scorer like Stamkos is much more difficult than finding a good 2 way center. It just is. That's my biggest hang up with choosing Toews over Stams.

Toews is the better overall player. Stamkos is the better offensive player. Toews makes players around him better. Stamkos needs the puck fed to him. end of story

The deciding factor for me was the fact Toews is second in the league in even strength goals over the past 2 seasons with less even strength ice time than the rest of the top ten.

I would easily take Stamkos. Guys who score 60 goals a season before they turn 25 aren't guys you pass over.

As noted in Garth's blog the other day, the ratio of points per minute on the ice at 5 on 5 for both players is identical: .0256 for Stamkos, .0255 for Toews. At even strength, they each score the same amount of goals per minute played.

So this is a choice between what you want as your cornerstone player. Toews, is a complete center. Stamkos, is a pure scorer. Each is better than the other in their own idiom.

So for me, I'd take the guy that can help you in the most amount of circumstances.

If one of Toews or Stamkos were to be kicked off Team Canada because their passport had expired, who would you think the team would be better off without?

And, just for the record, if this was a contest between Toews and myself, I'd pick me for sure.

His play, even when not scoring, makes that team what it is and allows guys like Kane, Hossa and Sharp to do their thing.

He's a generational talent, in my opinion, and at this point, gets the edge on Stammer.

That being said, nothing wrong with Stamkos. He's certainly no slouch in his own zone. Also, the comparisons of KESSEL to Stammer are laughable at best. I just feel like the more accurate contest for play-style would have been Stammer VS Tavares.

That, and you can't teach 60 goals...

Toews vs. Stamkos is not a good comparison. I would have gone with Toews vs Bergeron or Toews vs Datsyuk
