no no. it was sort of my fault. i told everybody it was like july 27th and it was like 20 days earlier than that or something. i looked at my ticket one day and was like, you guys, it's the day after tomorrow. and it was just at the electric factory or something so it was already sold out.

Toews.

Yeah, I'm a Lightning fan and... Toews.

The kind of two-way play that he brings to a team, with his leadership, its unreal. He's clutch, he plays equally well in all three zones and I doubt Chicago would have their 2 cups without him. His play, even when not scoring, makes that team what it is and allows guys like Kane, Hossa and Sharp to do their thing.

He's a generational talent, in my opinion, and at this point, gets the edge on Stammer.

That being said, nothing wrong with Stamkos. He's certainly no slouch in his own zone. Also, the comparisons of KESSEL to Stammer are laughable at best. I just feel like the more accurate contest for play-style would have been Stammer VS Tavares.

That, and you can't teach 60 goals...

Stamkos>>>>>>Tavares. Stamkos does everything Tavares does, only better.

But you implied Toews is a part of that general group of "good two way Cs", which is pretty (frank)ing stupid.
- FinAddict

Oh, okay! Thanks. For a minute there I guess I didn't know what I actually meant, especially being I used Stamkos' specific name in regards to pure goal scorer and did not use Toews name in reference to "good 2-way centers". (which ironically enough he is) But I guess that's beside the point anyway, being the overall point was that I'd rather have an elite level pure goal scorer, like Stamkos, and be in need of a "good 2-way center".

With that said Mr. Einstein, thank you for letting me know what I meant or implied! Pure genius bud. I'll be sure to consult you from now on so that I know exactly what it is I'm trying to say!

I really like Tavares. He needs some talent around him though.

Don't really buy that argument. Parenteau got better with Duchene in a harder conference, Moulson had 44 points IIRC this year. That's more than anyone Toews played with. Tavares is really good, but he's not on the level of a Stamkos or Toews IMO

Toews based on his incredible leadership qualities (anyone who disputes this just doesn't know how big he is in the locker room) as well as his FO% and 2 way skillz.

Stamkos the more "skilled" player, but I would take Toews as the more all around guy.

What a surprise. Every poster who is a fan of Chicago chooses Toews. And gets mad at everyone who says otherwise.....

stamkos or toews against jt is very interesting. it's so hard to say... I might have to take toews... but I would take jt over stammer... although that's still a really tough call. it depends on the supporting cast around him to be honest I guess... but I have a personal " attachment" to jt I guess just because he's turning around my favorite all time team

Definitely a tough call, but I would pick Toews. He is a more complete player and in my opinion a better leader. Stamkos' ability to score like he does is something that can't be taught and doesn't come around often, but scoring can be done by committee, and Toews is the perfect leader for that committee, as seen by the Hawks success the last few years.

Really? Moulson>Hossa? Kane? Sharp?
Not to mention the hawks have a much greater defense and good defense contributes to offense
And the Atlantic last year > than Avs division this year

Actually, the best player on the ice isn't whoever plays with Toews because the best player is STILL Toews.

Ok let's see........

TOEWS -

Scores goals
Assists
Top Faceoff Guy
Goes to the Front of the net
Best Captain
Excels at defence
Plays all 3 zones
On the ice no matter the situation: offence or defence
Power Play
Excels at Penalty Kills
Makes others around him better

Oh yeah, 2 cups and Conn Smythe

STAMKOS -

Scores goals

Yup, it's pretty close.

I actually like STAMKOS too, but yeah, I'm a Hawks fan so I must be homer.
Not because TOEWS excels at every facet of the hockey that you are coached at since you are a kid.

Lol so you pass over the better player for a better "leader?" Toews is a winner because he played with Kane, Keith, Sharp, Seabrook, etc. aka arguably the best team in the NHL for a few of Toews' seasons. Stamkos on CHI is just as good a "leader" and just as much a winner.
- isles10289

Yeah, the question Ek asked was if you were starting a team, meaning a fresh new team. People are picking Toews because he has won 2 Stanley Cups, but the Hawks are much better than us right now. I may be a little biased, but I would choose Stammer in a heartbeat.

- blizzzard

ok so then you would choose Andrew Ladd over Stamkos then because he has won a cup? no you wouldn't. even though Ladd is a hell of a player!
