Toews is a lot more comparable to Trottier than Stamkos will ever be to Gretzky. And no that isn't a slight on Stamkos. If you wanted to pick an Oiler to make your comparison move valid Kurri would have been more accurate. - Muskwa
First of all, Kurri was the best two-way player on the Oilers. Sather said he might well have been their most complete forward. I'm not sure Stamkos' game measures up.
But also, what's your comparison based upon? Goal-scoring? Because Gretzky was the league's pre-eminent goal scorer until 1986. And while he hasn't (and let's be honest, won't) dominate the rest of the league to the degree that Gretzky did, the fact remains that Stamos scoring 60 goals in the NHL as it exists today, is every bit as impressive as Gretzky scoring 70+ goals in the early to mid '80s. |

Do $2 hookers get beaten? - paulr
That's a hard deal to beat. I suppose some of them might accept competitor's coupons. I usually try not to analyze statistics based on such a small sample size, though. |

have also heard from Vancouver fans that Hodgson is better. And from Rags fans that Stephan and Nash are better. Nothing surprises me anymore |

Everyone is taking this to personal They both bring something a little different to the table but both are very effective and there probably is no wrong answer it all depends on your preference when building a team - blizzzard

The guy scores 60 goals a year how much more do they want? - mighty13duck
Defense, it does no good to score 60 goals a year if you end up giving up 61 haha. I'll admit i dont see enough of Stamkos' games to be able to bash him but generally what i have seen of his defense is nowhere near Toews' defensive abilities. As stated by pretty much everyone...both are great players |

Toews all day long ... Center, Captain, 2 Stanley cup champion, Gold medal (olympics) .... this guy is, for me, almost better then Crosby is. |

Before last year I woulda said toews. But after seeing him crying like a baby in the playoffs when things didnt go his way, I would have to say Stammer. Toews also managed to destroy any comparisons he had to Yzerman with his temper tantrums. - Sulli03
Toews was able to get ahold of himself, refocus and beat your beloved Wings remember? Reganing his focus showed just how great a player and leader he is. Toews is right on Yzerman's heels as you seem to forget Yzerman's hissy fits over Bowman's coaching. |

Doesnt Toews wear number 19 because he idolized Joe Sakic? I've heard the comparisons to Yzerman before but do they play the same style? I didnt get to see Yzerman play (too young), so all i see is the highlights and old shows on NHL network. |

An interesting comparison would be Hossa or St. Louis or Kane vs St.Louis I even think even though others might find it boring but I have always compared Elias and Hejduk |

Teows' kind player can be found a little easier than someone who scores the way Stamkos does. there are only 3, maybe 4 people who can score like Stamkos and there are maybe 5-6 players who can match Teows' play. very slight edge to Stamkos. |

Stamkos "all-around" game is very underrated and frankly overshadowed by his goal scoring. I'm not saying he is on the level of Toew's but he is a hard worker across all 200 feet of ice surface. Maybe I'm being homerish by taking Stammer but I don't see how you can pass on a scorer like him if building a team.
Also, not taking Toew's accomplishments away from him but he doesn't win 2 cups without the supporting cast he has around him. Stammer hasn't had 1/2 the team that Toew's has had most if not all of his career so taking into account Toew's "accomplishments" is the incorrect way of looking at this dilemma. Which is the better player is the question and to me the answer is Stamkos |

Tavares? In all seriousness Toews a great leader, but Stamkos is the better player imo. |
