The devils never had a great D partner to take him under his wing, this situation is either mismanaged or the Larsson is a dud, not many defensemen can play in the bigs at 18, always a gamble |

we will have 1 goal all season and it will be a total fluke in a 12-1 loss scored by barch - dmarsden2988

Scott Stevens is the Defensive coach he hasnt proven him self like Larry Robinson man he was perfect for that kid but I believe in Stevens and think it will make up for a lack of partner And Subban never really had one eithr considering how last season was like the first time Markov played long enough to make a difference |

Greene is a pretty good D partner. I feel like anytime we have a great pair he is always involved. Him and Bryce 2-3 years back were great, him and Fayne were awesome in a shut-down role in our cup run, and him and Larsson were good last season. |

but we dont have a weber, a suter, a pronger, a letang, a karlsson, or any top dmen so no matter what larsson is going to suck and wont make his dpartner better at any point in his career

As long as he's not a liability which I believe he will be, also he's a plus player and continues to improve then ill be happy. I would like to see 30 points (5g-25A) but I'm swinging for the fences cause NJ won't score 30 goals this year |

Him being to the finals doesn't prove much since he only played 5 playoff games... That is like saying a 4th line grinder/enforcer on a cup winning team is better than a top line player w/o a Cup. |

19-30.
I think he's a long term project. Probably should have stayed in Sweden or played in Albany for a year or two first.
Still see him as a future top pairing guy, though. Merrill-Larsson, perhaps? |

I don't follow all the negativity.
With any young players there is going to be a learning curve. Often times the rollercoaster doesn't dip downwards until physical fatigue sets in.
That was the case with Larsson in his first year and they've pulled back the throttle on him ever since.
His first 40 games were very different than every game he's played since. He is going to be fine.
-He has a big frame
-He can skate
-He has very good vision
-He is able to make some pretty nifty outlet passes
-After two years I am confident he can handle the opposing forecheck without turning it over or forcing to the blueline so it can be held
-He won't handle the puck like Doughty or Keith, but with his frame he shouldn't have to
-It hasn't been his first choice, but at times he was not timid throwing his body around
-Shot from the point isn't great...but it's heavy enough to force some effort from the goalie. I believe he will be more adept at getting deflections than scoring from the blueline. Much like Rafalski.
Am I missing something? Is there really that much improvement that needs to be made? I see a lot of physical tools and natural ability in a very young guy.
Relax. |

Excellent post. Larsson is a very smooth skater, just the Devils don't let their d-men lead rushes often. But as he matures he should get the kind of freedom other d-men wouldn't receive.
