Yeah... he's pretty awesome for the most part.

There have been times where I have went on completely drunken tirades, wake up in the morning expecting a week or more only to find nothing.

So when I get banned for something small... it all evens out.

see and thats what I meant earlier...most people who took similar routes as me thought that they would spend 5 years in Uni, graduate and boom - high paying job to pay off those years of schooling. Wrong! - I worked throughout Uni to get my feet wet and because of it, Ive been with the same company for 7 years even though the first 5 were during schooling...so now I have experience and education and I have been promoted three times since graduating and have no school debt.

My friends who didnt work are sitting at home as we speak with tons of school debt waiting for their deadbeat job to start in a few hours. You always need to find ways to be ahead of others if you want better jobs/opps....thats why I took on the blogger role and became the president of my condo board about a year ago to further my skill sets....the career I want doesnt ask for stuff like this but you'd be crazy to think it wont put me ahead of other applicants with a similar degree

- Colin Dambrauskas

Any old people (like me) who say it was tougher when they were young are full of poop. I got into the government when I ran into a friend in a restaurant. I had worked for him years earlier.

I had a good degree and some useful looking experience but I get the sense these days that there are 200 applicants with the same qualifications for every position.

I agree, and that's across the board in just about every profession. You had a degree back then (whenever your then is), even a simple BA, and you were all but guaranteed a good job.

yep...like I said, due to such a high number of graduates in recent years, a BA alone is almost as equivilant to a highschool diploma...

Yup. I long since realised that if you want to do any meaningful scientific research, you either need to jam a horseshoe up your pooper, or get an advanced degree...

It was also like working in Mad Men when I joined the government (late 80's) - all the senior people had long steak/martini lunches and most meetings in the afternoon took place in the bar at a nearby hotel.

(Women didn't have the same attributes though)

Women were assistants for the most part as well. There was way less opportunities for them. And yes, they didn't possess MM type attributes.

I remember those lunches fondly. Then a call would come from some judge's clerk at 4:00pm and we had to race to court for some hearing, completely bloated and totally blitzed.

The good old days....
